D0018 Mathematics and StatisticsDescription:The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Houston - Downtown is inviting applications for a position at the level of Assistant Professor of Data Science to begin teaching in the academic year of 2025-2026. A Ph.D. Degree in Data Science, Data Analytics, Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or related fields is required by May 2025. The successful applicant will be expected to be an excellent instructor and mentor; being able to teach graduate courses in Data Analytics or Statistics, or Mathematics as well as undergraduate courses in Data Science, and Mathematics or Statistics.Responsibilities:Ability to teach data analytics or statistics or mathematics courses at the graduate level.Ability to teach data science and mathematics or statistics courses at the undergraduate level.Ability to mentor undergraduate and graduate student projects or other high-impact activities.Knowledge of statistical software packages such as Python, R, and SQL.Ability and willingness to provide leadership in curriculum development and professional service.Research potential and plans for continuing research activity.Qualifications:Ph.D. degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, or related fields.Application Process:Applicant should submit the following via mathjob.org: Cover Letter, Curriculum Vitae, Graduate Transcript, Teaching Statement, Research Statement, and at least three confidential letters of recommendation with at least one addressing teaching.About University of Houston-Downtown:Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2024, the University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) is the second-largest university in Houston and has served the educational needs of the nation’s fourth-largest city since 1974.
