The Genetic Disease Screening Program (GDSP) of the California Department of Public Health works to protect and improve the health of all Californians. Job Description And Duties
This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by performing a variety of data administrative, management, and analytical duties to support the Program Development and Evaluation Section. The Research Scientist I regularly performs data support duties that include any combination of responding to data requests, retrieving data, maintaining data reports, and communicating with external prenatal screening providers.
The incumbent works under the supervision of the Research Scientist Supervisor I (Epidemiology/Biostatistics), Chief of the Prenatal Outcomes & Evaluation Unit. The incumbent will work independently or as a team member to plan, organize, and conduct ongoing epidemiological research on data completeness in the outcomes of pregnancy surveillance. The incumbent will apply statistical and survey techniques to identify, investigate, solve, and present new data quality issues and surveillance research issues using SQL and/or SAS software. The incumbent will conduct an expansion of the electronic data collection system, provide technical support for internal and external projects, maintain protocol documentation, and serve as a liaison with external and internal prenatal care providers. The incumbent will also clear data error alert codes, process incomplete data reporting, and lead special projects assigned by the Section Chief.
The attached duty statement indicates whether this position is eligible for telework. All employees who telework are required to be California residents in accordance with Government Code 14200 and may be required to report to a CDPH office when needed. Candidates who reside outside of the state of California may be interviewed; however, the selected candidate must have a primary residency in the state of California prior to appointment (and continue to maintain California residency) as a condition of employment. Failure to meet this requirement may result in the job offer being rescinded.
