Microsoft’s Azure Data engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence. The products our portfolio include Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL DB, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure PostgreSQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Grid, and Power BI. Within Azure Data, the Insights and Analytics team is dedicated to building and maintaining internal analytics and reporting platform hosted on Microsoft Fabric. This platform delivers insights to Azure Data Engineering team leaders, Product Managers, Marketing, Finance and Sales. Additionally, the team serves as the initial customer of newly developed products and features, running them in a production environment and collaborating closely with product managers and engineers to provide invaluable feedback.

We are seeking a skilled Data Engineer II to enhance the Semantic Models of our analytics platform to accommodate the expanding data volume and user base, while also focusing on ensuring dependable and high-performing operations.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve:Participating in regular standup meetings.Picking up work items based on your capacity.Collaborating with the team’s Program Managers to define new projects or initiatives.Generating innovative ideas for enhancements.Engaging directly with the teams developing the tools we utilize, offering direct product feedback.Providing comprehensive reporting on the health of Azure Data products.

Responsibilities

Lead the development of the team’s Power BI/Fabric semantic models.Work with the Program Managers on translating business requirements to tabular modeling development requirements.Work with the Program Managers on moving report-based DAX measures into the team’s central semantic model.Continuously improve user experience by measuring and optimizing performance of the semantic model.Specify data engineering requirements based on the semantic model designs and development requirements.Contribute to the design of major feature enhancements for Fabric.Work directly with business stakeholders to refine requirements and deliver working proofs of concept.Collaborate with peers and maintain flexibility on domain ownership as business priorities evolve.Contribute to the success of Azure Data by testing new products and features.Work with other data teams within Microsoft on understanding their semantic models.Share tabular model development best practices within and outside of Microsoft.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Math, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years experience in business analytics, data science, software development, data modeling or data engineering work.OR Master's Degree in Computer Science, Math, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 1+ year(s) experience in business analytics, data science, software development, or data engineering work.OR equivalent experience.Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.Additional Or Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Math, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years experience in business analytics, data science, software development, data modeling or data engineering work.OR Master's Degree in Computer Science, Math, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years of business analytics, data science, software development, data modeling or data engineering work experience.OR equivalent experience.Knowledge of relational modeling concepts, and Microsoft tabular semantic models.3+ years experience in Data Engineering or Analytics work with at least 2+ years of tabular development, DAX and SQL.2+ years experience translating business requirements to technical requirements.Data Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $94,300 - $182,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $120,900 - $198,600 per year.Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
