Accountant IAs an Accountant I, you will be responsible for accurate and timely professional accounting and financial reporting tasks for the Airports Authority and the performance of related work as required.

Serves in the Office of Finance, at the Headquarters Office or the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project Office.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Inputs, prepares non-complex accounting journal entries for posting to the General Ledger.

Performs data entry transactions for accounts receivable, accounts payable, capital assets, projects or general ledger into the Authority’s financial systems.

Prepares monthly schedules for various revenues, expenses and other accounts.

Performs monthly reconciliations for general ledger accounts, comparing external source documentation to general ledger balances.

Prepares and assists in preparing monthly and year-end financial statements and reports.

Supports the Office of Finance regarding the various financial audits (both internal and external). Prepares non-complex audit schedules and provides information regarding financial statement footnotes.

Assists in the preparation of documentation for outside reporting requirements such as grant, federal agency surveys and other items.

Responds to supplier and customer inquiries and assists in the payables and collection work. May work to resolve issues with suppliers, customers, project managers etc.

Maintains storage of financial documents in a document management system.

Maintains confidentiality of data.

Serves as a back-up for other Accountants (in their absence).

May provide assistance to a higher graded Accountant on large or complicated projects.

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONSThree years of progressively responsible experience in accounting or auditing, (with emphasis in accounting) that includes professional-level accounting experience in accounts receivable, accounts payable, project, capital asset, or general ledger and a bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field providing a minimum of 12 semester hours in accounting or closely related courses such as Principles of Accounting, Intermediate Accounting, Cost Accounting, and/or Finance, etc. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

General knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the accounting and/or program rules and standards of the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB), or Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB).

Knowledge of and ability to apply professional accounting practices, methods, and techniques.

Ability to rapidly acquire and apply knowledge of specific processes, procedures, practices, systems, and other standards and guides.

Ability to speak and write effectively, with emphasis on communicating technical issues to nontechnical audiences.

Skill in using a computer and modern office suite software, with emphasis on accounting and financial systems/software.
