Duties
WHAT IS THE WAGE AND INVESTMENT DIVISION?Vacancies will be filled in the following specialty areas:Wage and Investment Customer Assistance, Relationship and Education - Field Assistance - Area 4
The following are the duties of this position at the full working level:Assists and advises taxpayers in meeting their Federal Tax obligations, covering individual income, excise, and employment taxes.Conducts interviews with taxpayers to determine their tax situation and provide advice.Discusses tax law impact with tax practitioners and accountants, reviewing books and records to understand the taxpayer's financial status.Confers with taxpayers and/or their representatives to explain issues involving tax law applicability.Assists taxpayers in preparing tax returns and explains the consequences of various actions.Requirements
Must be a U.S. Citizen or National and provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.Must successfully complete a background investigation, including a FBI criminal history record check.Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement:GENERAL EXPERIENCE FOR GS-05:
You must have three years of general experience, one year of which was at a level equivalent to GS-04 in the Federal Service. General experience includes analyzing problems, gathering data, planning and organizing work, and effective communication.OR
EDUCATION:
4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.OR
COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
A combination of experience and education may qualify you.SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-07:
You must have one year of specialized experience at a level equivalent to GS-05 in the Federal service, including knowledge of business practices, accounting principles, and Federal tax laws.OR
EDUCATION:
1 year of graduate education in a related field.OR
COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
A combination of experience and education may qualify you.SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-09:
You must have one year of specialized experience at a level equivalent to GS-07 in the Federal service, including knowledge of the Internal Revenue Code and tax-related issues.OR
EDUCATION:
A master's or equivalent graduate degree in a related field.OR
COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
A combination of experience and education may qualify you.Education
