Overview:

The Corporate FP&A department is made up of approximately 50 contributors, primarily located in Buffalo, NY.

This specific team’s primary responsibility within Corporate FP&A is to develop and maintain tools and frameworks that enable the measurement of M&T’s financial profitability across its businesses, including the Bank’s Funds Transfer Pricing (FTP) and Capital Allocation methodologies.

The Financial Analyst III will conduct technical research and financial analysis projects to provide senior management with definitive financial data and advice for their use in setting and realizing strategic objectives, particularly through the use of FTP, Capital Allocation, and other profitability analyses.Primary Responsibilities:Conduct independent research and analytical projects involving financial profitability and pro forma analysis to provide senior management with insights and advice to set and realize strategic objectives and capital planning initiatives.Research and implement FTP methodologies commensurate with the Bank’s Asset/Liability composition and business mix.Research and implement Regulatory, Tangible, and Risk-based Capital Allocation methodologies commensurate with the Bank’s risk profile and Equity/Capital positions and policies.Develop documentation that outlines the procedures, policies, and theories that guide M&T’s FTP and Capital Allocation frameworks.Conduct monthly & quarterly analysis and reporting of M&T’s FTP and Capital Allocation impacts on business unit and product profitability.Compose presentations and written narratives that summarize the impact of allocation methodologies on M&T’s current and projected financial profitability.Provide analytical support to M&T’s pricing tools and pro forma analyses used to assess the profitability of the Bank’s businesses, customers, and products used throughout the organization.Assist in the team’s interactions with external regulatory agencies and internal risk management’s related reviews/exams.Collaborate with Treasury and Finance division counterparts, business units, and risk management areas to ensure subject matter expertise and industry practices are incorporated into M&T’s FTP and Capital Allocation methodologies.Interpret and summarize changing regulatory policy and accounting guidance that impact M&T’s FTP and Capital Allocation frameworks.Display proficiency in the financial planning and reporting systems/tools (such as Hyperion Planning, Hyperion Financial Management, Essbase, etc.) used to generate financial reports and financial forecasts.Demonstrate a strong knowledge of finance and accounting concepts through the aggregation and analysis of financial data.Display an advanced understanding of M&T's (or applicable Business Unit within) financial statements; including awareness of key drivers/trends in major Balance Sheet and Income Statement line items.Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility:May train junior staff.Education and Experience Required:Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 3 years’ experience OR Associate's degree and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in accounting auditing, operations, or financial institutions.Comprehensive understanding of finance and accounting concepts + knowledge of the banking industry.Strong technical aptitude and advanced financial modeling skills.Education and Experience Preferred:Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting or related field.
