Sanford Burnham Prebys is a preeminent, independent biomedical research institute dedicated to understanding human biology and disease and advancing scientific discoveries to profoundly impact human health.The Financial Analyst will be a highly motivated, detail-oriented, self-starter reporting to the Director of Financial Planning & Analysis and will assist in creating financial report packages along with various financial performance analyses that help drive accurate forecasting and budgeting. Work closely with business partners by providing transparent analysis to make better strategic decisions. In addition, the analyst will have a great opportunity to grow and participate in the implementation of IBM Cognos TM1 and BI.Duties and Responsibilities:
Generates and consolidates timely monthly, quarterly and annual financial report packages for management reviewAssists with budget analysis, financial projections, accounting research, coordination of financial data with other departments, and significant ad hoc financial analysesDevelops financial models and help manage the budgeting/forecasting processMaintains monthly indirect operating expense forecast vs. plan reportsTracks trends and KPIs while creating new metrics as the business focus evolvesIdentifies, creates, and implements changes to continually improve efficiencies within department business processes to improve accuracy of planning, forecasting, and analysis activitiesConducts ad hoc analyses at the request of senior managementEducation and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or other financial related field and three years’ experience in analytical accounting and financial reporting/analysis or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skill and abilities have been attainedOther Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities:
Advanced level knowledge/experience with MS Excel and Power PointIBM Cognos (TM1 and BI) experience a plusAdvanced analytical skills and demonstrated ability to meet deadlines while managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environmentDemonstrated ability to build and manage financial models for business forecasting, variance analysis and problem solvingWork independently as well as in a team environmentBe responsible and have strong time management skillsAble to analyze and resolve issues of moderate complexityPossess strong attention to detail and organizational skillsProfessional communication and interpersonal skillsEmbody the Institute’s core values of Commitment, Collaboration, Communication, Community and CompassionSupervisory Responsibilities:
This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.COMPENSATION:
