Postdoctoral Associate – Epigenetic Aging & Rejuvenation

Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute, San Diego, California, United States, 92189

Sanford Burnham Prebys is a preeminent, independent biomedical research institute dedicated to understanding human biology and disease and advancing scientific discoveries to profoundly impact human health. For over 40 years, our research has produced breakthroughs in cancer, neuroscience, immunology, and children’s diseases, and is anchored by our NCI-designated cancer center and advanced drug discovery capabilities. The Tian lab at Sanford Burnham Prebys in San Diego focuses on the role of epigenetic instability in the aging process. Our recent work including epigenetic reprogramming and aging clocks supports that the progressive loss of epigenetic information over time is a key driver of aging. The current research of the lab aims to understand how the epigenetic landscape is set up and maintained and why the maintenance system fails which contributes to aging and age-related diseases such as cancer and neurodegeneration. We are seeking a talented, highly motivated researcher to study the fundamental role of epigenomic changes in aging and age-related diseases. The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience with genomic and epigenomic techniques and high-performance computing. The project will include but not be limited to designing and executing omics experiments at bulk, single-cell, or spatial levels as well as analyzing complex data. Familiarity with DNA methylome sequencing and analysis is a plus. The position offers an opportunity to work with a dedicated team of scientists. As a career training position, the candidate will hone skills in grant application, mentoring, collaboration, and lab management.Duties and Responsibilities:

Lead a project by formulating hypotheses, designing and conducting experiments, interpreting data, and informing conclusions and future directions.Employ state-of-the-art computational tools to advance our understanding of epigenetic aging.Perform omics and molecular biology experiments.Analyze bulk and single-cell multi-omics data, including RNA-seq, DNA methylation, and chromatin accessibility.Adapt and learn new techniques as the project develops.Work synergistically with fellow lab members.Establish and maintain collaborations with other labs.Present results at lab meetings and local and international conferences.Education and/or Experience:

Ph.D. in genetics, genomics, molecular biology, bioinformatics, neuroscience, systems biology, or a related field.Strong scientific knowledge of genetics and epigenetics is preferred.A minimum of one year’s experience in bioinformatics or a demonstrated expertise in the field.Experience with hands-on experimentation.A proven track record in handling, analyzing, and interpreting omics data, including bulk and single-cell RNA-seq, DNA methylation, or related.Other Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities:

Outstanding personal initiative and creativity.Excellent teamwork, time management, and organizational skills.Ability to work independently in a multidisciplinary, fast-paced, results-oriented environment.Knowledge of statistical methods applied to biology.Ability to interpret complex data sets.Experience with version controlling of codes with a code repository like GitHub or equivalent.Experience in any of the following is a plus: aging clocks, neuroscience, and machine learning.Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position will mentor graduate students or research assistants.Compensation:

The expected compensation for this position is between $68,016.00 - $75,004.80/year commensurate with experience.Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute is an Equal Opportunity employer – M/F/Veteran/Disability – committed to the hiring, advancement and fair treatment of all individuals. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, protected veteran status, or any other protected status as designated by federal, state or local law.
