NAL's work generates key insights into ecosystem health, potential discovery of novel genes for natural product sourcing as well as long term predictive modeling combining the latest in omics-led science, AI/LLM engineering tools and novel financial products.Scope of Work:As a DevOps Developer, you will:Lead the development and implementation architectural roadmap generally, ensuring it aligns with business needs and technology standards.Help develop an overall data architecture, which incorporates many types of databases (SQL/NoSQL/Data Lakes) and storage (S3) within designated cost and performance constraints.Define and assist with security standards, guiding the selection and integration of security tools, systems, and processes.Lead cloud security initiatives, ensuring optimal configuration and protection of cloud assets (toward SOC 2 compliance over the next year).Design, deploy, and manage Kubernetes clusters, focusing on high availability, scalability, and resilience requirements.Develop CI/CD pipelines for automated testing, building, and deployment processes for containerized applications.Design and develop capabilities that leverage state-of-the-art cloud-native open source components (e.g. Kubernetes, Backstage, ArgoCD, Terraform).Implement proactive monitoring, logging, and alerting frameworks to manage the health and performance of services.Stay updated with cloud technologies and trends, advocating for and implementing innovative solutions to enhance our infrastructure.Work within an agile environment that uses PRDs (product requirements docs) and RFCs (request for comments) and a quarterly capacity plan to scope, prioritize, and implement work on Asana.Mentor and develop junior DevOps team members, setting high standards in design reviews, driving roadmaps and prioritization of user-facing features (for scientists), and providing input on team processes.Required ExpertiseBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.Over 7 years of experience in DevOps, systems administration, or software engineering, with significant achievements in container infrastructure and Kubernetes.Expertise in Kubernetes, including cluster management, Helm, and Kubernetes networking.Profound knowledge of container technologies (Docker, container d, singularity) and orchestrators.Proficiency in scripting (Bash, Python) and infrastructure as code tools (Terraform, Ansible, Saltstack).Experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab, Github, CI, CircleCI), etc.Deep understanding of cloud services (AWS, Azure, GCP) and managed Kubernetes services (EKS, AKS, GKE).Knowledge of monitoring and logging tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack).Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to lead in a dynamic environment.A genuine interest in environmental conservation and climate resilience.Ability to handle multiple priorities, with a commitment to deadlines and accuracy.Preferred ExpertiseExperience with Kafka or Redpanda.Experience with deployment of LLM infrastructure (and general interest in ML agents).Experience with SLURM and working within HPC-like research communities.Experience with Terragrunt.Knowledge of bioinformatics workflow tooling (e.g. Nextflow) and genomics in general.Startup experience is a plus.Demonstrated track record of innovative problem-solving.LogisticsFull-time, 40 hours a week role (employee).This is a remote position, with a preference for candidates based in the Pacific Standard Time (PST) zone, Los Angeles ideally.
