OverviewAlnylam’s business strategy is to develop and commercialize a broad pipeline of RNAi therapeutic products directed towards our four Strategic Therapeutic Areas (STArs): Genetic Medicines, Cardio-Metabolic Diseases, Hepatic Infectious Diseases and CNS/Ocular Diseases. Business development has been and will continue to be an integral part of our short- and long-term growth strategy. We expect to enter into additional collaboration and licensing agreements as a means of obtaining resources, technologies, capabilities and funding to advance our investigational RNAi therapeutic programs.

The Director of Business Development will report to the Sr. Director of Business Development and will be a hybrid role based at Alnylam’s headquarters in Cambridge, MA.

Key ObjectivesLead the identification, evaluation and execution of acquisition, investment, and partnership opportunities across a range of therapeutic areas and assets, including:Out-licensing/in-licensing opportunitiesM&A opportunitiesResearch collaborations

Lead the negotiating and drafting of transaction term sheets and definitive agreements that utilize creative deal structures and processes that result in business success and maximum value.Support the execution of complex analytics to assess opportunities (e.g., comparable deal analysis and financial modeling/NPV analysis).Support the diligence activities for all transactions (e.g., preparing and setting up diligence files, financing documents, etc.).Partner closely with internal and external legal teams to negotiate and implement appropriate legal agreements to support research, development, and commercial goals.Support program and alliance management, finance and legal teams in transaction implementation and management.Support the development of a company strategy for maximum value creation and the development/refinement of a business/corporate development strategy that aligns with the company strategy.

QualificationsAn MBA (preferred, not required) with at least 7-10+ years of relevant industry experience in biotech/pharma business development, consulting, or investment banking. Must have an aptitude to quickly understand new science and technology.Proven interest in biotech/pharma.Demonstrated track record sourcing, prioritizing, diligencing, and significantly contributing and/or leading transactions to completion.Exceptional oral presentation and written communication skills; experience presenting to company executive management teams.Demonstrated strong analytical and financial modeling capabilities.Ability to work collaboratively with many different internal and external constituencies.Ability to manage multiple projects and tight timelines.Ability to interface with senior management internally and represent Alnylam with external parties.
