Insurance/Reinsurance Accountant

The reinsurance accountant prepares reinsurance reporting packages for client accounts and offers assistance with servicing and accounting for existing reinsurance deals. As a reinsurance accountant, you will prepare, review, and approve payments; help implement and improve systems to ensure accurate accounting; and report on ceded reinsurance activity as well as direct MGA reporting. Specific responsibilities include (but are not limited to):Ensure timely bordereaux reporting including accurate and complete calculations, recording, reporting, and billing in accordance with treaty terms.Preparation of monthly Bordereaux in Excel/Access.Review of revenues on the Bordereaux.Review and approve claims submitted for payment by the claims department to ensure they are insurance-related claims.Fulfill reporting requests and inquiries from various departments as well as outside insurance companies, communicating issues or developing trends from these reports; proactively take action to resolve identified issues.Lead the analysis and reconciliation of reinsurance including all associated balance sheet reconciliations, to support both bordereaux and financial statement preparation for the MGA and the reinsurer.Monitor claims and premiums, performing risk management as appropriate.Maintain client records ensuring data integrity for both client and company records through careful data entry and review.Support month-end closing processes, participating in internal audits as needed.Requirements:Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience.Prior experience integrating reinsurance processes and systems.Advanced Excel skills and Access database skills required.P&C and L&H Insurance experience required.Ability to build relationships across the organization.Strong understanding of insurance terminology; insurance law knowledge highly desired.Thorough understanding of GAAP.Strong analytical, time management, and organizational skills.Comfortable working with a steep learning curve and motivation to work in an opportunity-rich, dynamic environment.
