Our bioengineers make use of an in-house automated foundry for designing and building new organisms.We are seeking a Manager, Revenue Accounting, to provide support for revenue recognition with our collaboration partners and join the revenue accounting team. In this role, you will be responsible for reviewing collaboration contractual terms in accordance with ASC 606, preparing the monthly revenue recognition calculations and deferred revenue classifications for several customer projects at Ginkgo. The Manager, Revenue Accounting will work closely with program managers and commercial operations teams to ensure that all revenue deals are properly captured and revenue recognized in accordance with the terms of each collaboration agreement.To be successful, you must possess knowledge of technical revenue accounting pertaining to contracts with clients (aka ASC 606 and IFRS 15), have some experience with revenue operations for publicly held companies such as contract research organizations (CROs) and/or research-based biotechnology or pharmaceutical industries and have familiarity using EAC and POC methodologies.Ginkgo’s revenue is determined at points in time or over time, depending on contract terms and conditions, with input methodologies used for all over time revenue recognition. The cost-to-cost manner of percentage-of-completion (POC) using estimated actual costs (EAC) is an area where you will help drive innovation and efficiency in Ginkgo’s future processes.Responsibilities

Assist in reviewing customer contracts and applying the proper accounting treatment based on Ginkgo’s interpretation of ASC 606 technical accounting research (based on analysis, relevant literature, and conclusions). Document the accounting conclusions in an internal revenue matrix as needed on a monthly basis.Assist in the review of journal entries and ASC 606 workbooks during the monthly, quarterly, and annual closings.Assist in the preparation and review of reconciliations.Provide significant support of the quarterly financial statement reviews and annual financial statement audit and work with external Big 4 audit firm.Provide assistance in establishing effective financial controls over the evaluation and application of accounting literature to complex transactions.Participate in the design process for the automation of revenue accounting in the Project Management suite within Net Suite and ensure seamless integration with Goldblum, an internally developed database.Ensure SOX compliance by adhering to internal control requirements and maintaining updated documentation. Ensure the Project Management suite adheres to SOX requirements with proper controls over revenue being recorded within the General Ledger.Create and maintain procedural documentation and training materials.Develop cross-functional processes that improve the efficiency and timeliness of financial reporting and support Ginkgo’s continued growth.Execute on special projects, as needed.Ad hoc and project-based opportunities.Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance with an active Certified Public Accounting (CPA) license.5+ years of technical revenue accounting experience.Familiarity with accounting and reporting requirements of ASC 606 with respect to revenue from contracts with customers. Relevant activities include documenting accounting conclusions on new or modified customer contracts.Detailed operational knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and/or Google’s suite of offerings including Google Docs, Google Sheets.A demonstrated attention to detail accompanied by a strong work ethic.Preferred Capabilities

MSA or MBA.Experience in a corporate accounting/finance department, preferably a public company operating under full SOX compliance.Experience working in the audit/assurance practices of a large “Big 4” accounting firm.Systems implementation experience, Revenue or OTC systems experience.Working knowledge with Oracle NetSuite; Workday; Coupa; Blackline; Alteryx; and Adaptive tools.We also feel that it’s important to point out the obvious here – there’s a serious lack of diversity in our industry, and that needs to change.
