The Legal Counsel role is part of BJ’s Corporate Counsel Development Program and assumes a 3-year residency with BJ’s in-house legal team, immediately post law school. BJ’s legal team is charged with supporting a business that boasts more than 6.5 million members, 34,000 team members, and 18+ billion in annual revenue.To ensure broad-based experience and development, the Legal Counsel will rotate through 14 key subject areas, including:EmploymentReal EstateImmigrationComplianceNew MarketsMarketingGovernanceLitigationCommercial ContractingSEC ReportingLegal OpsIntellectual PropertyPrivacy + Data SecurityLicensingSenior attorneys supervise all rotations, and all rotations involve business client interactions and meaningful responsibility.In addition to practice area rotations, Legal Counsel will have access to a formalized mentorship program, intentional development in the form of practice area learning objectives, and the following third-party training programs:Year 1: Association of Corporate Counsel’s (ACC) Corporate Counsel University. This program is a premier training program for new in-house counsel.Year 2: ACC’s In-House Counsel Certification program. This curriculum-based program focuses on the continued development of junior to mid-level in-house counsel.Year 3: ACC’s Boston University Questrom School of Business Mini MBA for In-House Counsel program. Designed exclusively for in-house counsel, Questrom School of Business faculty members lead a rigorous 3-day mini MBA program.All Years: ProEdge, PwC’s proprietary upskilling, reskilling, and learning platform.Qualifications:
J.D. from top law school; top 25% of class strongly preferred;Active licensure in at least one jurisdiction expected by fall of first year of program (Massachusetts bar admission not required);2+ years of pre law school professional experience preferred (legal, corporate office, or military);Personal integrity, tact, excellent discretion, and the ability to handle highly confidential information appropriately;Excellent research, analytical, and writing skills;Ability to explain legal issues clearly and concisely.In accordance with the Pay Transparency requirements, the following represents a good faith estimate of the compensation range for this position. At BJ’s Wholesale Club, we carefully consider a wide range of non-discriminatory factors when determining salary. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, education, experience, and qualifications. The pay range for this position is starting from $104,000.00.
