Moreover, an employee in this position contributes to the scientific community and promotes the University’s reputation as a leader in the field.CORE JOB FUNCTIONSOversees research employees, students, and other relevant staff.Authors scientific publications, technical and agency reports, and patent applications.Assists in the development of training materials for research staff.Plans experiments and records and analyzes findings.Prepares research proposals and funding applications.Ensures that all activities are in compliance with applicable quality and regulatory standards.Maintains current knowledge of relevant scientific and technical developments.Presents ongoing work and findings to colleagues at academic conferences.Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.This list of duties and responsibilities is not intended to be all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties or responsibilities as necessary.CORE QUALIFICATIONSEducation:
Ph.D., M.D. or other doctoral level degree in relevant fieldExperience:
Minimum 10 years of relevant experienceKnowledge, Skills and Attitudes:Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data.Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.Inclusive, collegial and focused.Able to communicate with both scientific and non-scientific staff.DEPARTMENT ADDENDUMDepartment Specific FunctionsIsolation of islets and other cells from human and nonhuman primate tissues.Preparation of islets and other cells for transplant/infusion.Molecular and cellular techniques for Immunologic and imaging assessments of human and nonhuman primate blood and tissues.Data compilation and statistical analysis.Department Specific QualificationsEducation:
Ph.D., M.D. or other doctoral level degree in relevant fieldExperience:
Lab BasedIslet isolation and analysis (cell type, function, viability) and preparation for transplantation – any species but human and/or nonhuman primate ideal.Isolation and analysis of cells from hematopoietic and other tissues any species but human and/or nonhuman primate ideal.Molecular and cellular immunologic and tissue imaging techniques.Flow cytometry.In vitro assessments of islet function.In vitro assessments of immune cells in the allo and xeno transplant setting.Data compilation into graphs and preparation of slides, figures for grants and publications.Ability to compile different types of data and interpret at the assay and bigger picture level.Statistical analysis of data.Writing animal care and use protocols.Laboratory regulatory requirements.Assistance in grant and manuscript preparation.ManagementCoordination of 1-6 laboratory staff.Representation of lab within DRI and for interactions with key internal and external partners.Job Status:
