SUMMARY OF THE JOB:Our Staff Counsel must add value to and be support for the office of the General Counsel and all lines of business within the Bank, as directed by our Associate Counsel. This includes offering counsel on legal issues, supporting effective legal stewardship of the organization and helping facilitate business strategies and development. The successful candidate will support the General Counsel’s efforts to ensure legal compliance and limit risk exposure. Reports directly to the Associate Counsel.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Provide strong legal support to the Office of the General CounselHelp set internal governance policies and manage the impact of external factorsEvaluate and weigh multiple inputs and impacts of any decision or course of actionAnticipate legal issues and estimate risksIdentify proactive solutions that will eliminate or mitigate risksBase your decision-making process on ethics and integrityCreate relationships of trust and respect with key stakeholdersDeal with external parties (regulators, external counsel, politicians, clients)Attract, develop, direct, motivate and drive performanceDraft agreements that minimize risks and maximize legal rightsSupport legal objectivesDeal with complex, significant matters that cut across legal and related areasKeep abreast of legislative changesMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:Proven legal experience in a business environment (3-5 years of experience)Broad legal knowledge (real estate, corporate law, litigation, labor law, etc.)In-depth understanding of how legal issues affect organizationsAbility to develop legal strategy and objectivesWell-versed in how business operatesHigh degree of professional ethics and integrityExcellent judgment and analytical skillsOutstanding interpersonal and communication skillsJ.D. degree or equivalentDeep commitment to and involvement in community organizations and activitiesPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:General Office EquipmentKeyboard DexterityProlonged SittingActs affirmatively in all activities under his/her control in conformance with the Bank’s Affirmative Action, Equal Employment Opportunity, and Fair Lending Programs to achieve the Bank’s goals and objectives.
