We are seeking a highly motivated scientific researcher responsible for performing experiments with both in vitro and in vivo model of tumor models. Our laboratory focuses on developing novel therapies to improve cancer immunotherapies. The researcher will work with other lab members to characterize tumor models generated using organoids. The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented critical thinker able to work closely with other scientists to facilitate the completion of studies in a thoughtful and timely manner. Independent work is expected, but the researcher will be mentored closely and receive guidance and support from the PI and senior members of the lab.Specific duties include:Perform experiments and process samples (60%)

Maintains a clean environment and ensures that areas are adequately ordered and stocked and that equipment is in working order.Calibrate equipment and troubleshoot equipment properlyInitiate and revise lab standard operating procedures (SOPs) as neededClean lab, instruments, and equipmentMaintain cell culture linesProcess cardiac tissue samples for downstream analysisPerform in vitro and in vivo experiments and molecular biology assaysOrganization of samples from multiple projectsMaintain detailed notes of experimental procedures, samples, and methods

Data analysis (20%)

Perform analysis of molecular biology assaysPerform quantitative analysis of histological, fluorescent microscopy, and electron microscopy imagesMaintain organized spreadsheets of all data using Microsoft Excel

Scientific writing and presentation (20%)

Interpret and summarize data in reportsPresent data in PowerPoint or other formats at weekly lab meetingsAttend regular group meetings and share dataAssist in writing and preparation of scientific manuscripts and grants

Qualifications

Requirements:BA/BS and 2 years of related experience or a combination of education and work experience to equal 6 years.At least 1 year of direct experience with in vitro cell culture techniques, handling mouse experiments, and molecular biology techniques.Experience with experimental recordkeeping, including reporting of experimental data, both raw and analyzed, and maintaining sample inventories.Experience with basic laboratory assays, such as protein extraction and quantification, DNA/RNA extraction, qPCR, and Western Blotting.Problem-solving skills, strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and ability to work as a team member in a lab setting.We expect individuals interested in managing a lab.Preferred:Experience with conducting research according to scientific protocols, including reporting errors and summarizing data for reporting.Experience with in vitro models for medical research, specifically preclinical-based therapies.Experience with fluorescent microscopyExperience with conducting research according to Good Laboratory Practice and regulations.About the Department
