Join our team as we help shape the future.The Hartford currently has an in-house opportunity for a Senior Trial Counsel to litigate cases throughout Harris County and surrounding counties. Our Senior Trial Counsel position is for a highly skilled Attorney with extensive trial and litigation experience in complex and high exposure Construction, Premise Liability, Products Liability, and Commercial/Personal Motor Vehicle and other civil litigation. This position also requires experience with the handling of risk transfer related issues involved in such cases. As a Senior Trial Attorney for The Hartford, you will join a collaborative learning environment where you will have direct contact with our Claims Professionals all while working from home. Our in-house, remote work opportunity is well-suited for an Attorney who is dedicated to the practice of law and committed to excellent customer service. The ideal candidate is a well-seasoned Attorney with significant trial experience who demonstrates an ability to independently handle cases of high complexity and high exposure.Key Responsibilities

Handle complex and high exposure litigationAnalyze intricate substantive and procedural legal and factual issues, conduct extensive, well-reasoned legal research, independently develop and present defense strategies on behalf of clientsPrepare complex pleadings, written discovery, depositions, motions and briefs in support of defense strategies without supervision because of level of experience and expertiseProvide effective and timely communications, information, legal advice and other services to clients and claims customers on legal and factual issues in a technology driven environmentCommunicate with the court, witnesses, opposing counsel and co-counsel in a manner consistent with established office proceduresProvide for the prompt, efficient and effective disposition of assigned cases.Independently prepare and present witnesses and evidence at trials, judicial, and administrative hearings and alternative dispute resolutionsProvide opinions to Managing Attorney, staff, clients and claims customersDemonstrate a clear understanding of the tripartite relationship involved in the handling of the described matters is critical.Providing a commitment to a high level of customer service is essentialProvide timely and appropriate reporting to claims on all matters handled following detailed standard operating procedures.Qualifications

Minimum of 15 years of legal experience in civil litigation in state and federal courts within TexasJD from accredited law school and license to practice in TexasDocumented first chair jury trial experienceStrong legal research and writing skillsExcellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize duties and time are a mustStrong communication, computer and technological skills and the ability to quickly leverage new software as requiredDemonstrated expertise and familiarity in the handling of high exposure and complex claim cases and litigationWhat Else Can You Tell Me?

This position is a remote work opportunity; however, our selected candidate will travel as required to any of the state court counties, state appellate courts and federal courts within Texas to manage the assigned case load.The selected Senior Trial Attorney shall possess the ability to handle a full caseload using a paperless, litigation management process.For full-time, occasional, part-time or remote positions: (1) high speed broadband internet service is required, we do not recommend or support DSL, wireless, Wifi, Hotspots, Fiber without a modem and Satellite; (2) Internet provider supplied modem/router/gateway is hardwired to the Hartford issued computer with an ethernet cable; and (3) minimum upload/download speeds of 5Mbps/30Mbps will be required. The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition.
