This role will be responsible for overseeing and managing the legal aspects of real estate transactions for our organization, primarily in the Texas market, and will work out of our Houston Divisional office. Responsibilities may extend beyond the Texas market. Responsibilities include reviewing and negotiating contracts, preparing legal documents, researching real estate laws and regulations, and providing legal advice to clients. The candidate for the role should have excellent communication skills, great attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with other personnel. This role will report directly to the Vice President – Corporate Counsel.Division Counsel Duties and Responsibilities

Review, draft, and negotiate various documents including purchase agreements, contracts, leases, closing documents, and escrow instructions.Identify and resolve legal issues related to real estate transactions.Conduct detailed due diligence, and inspect title examination, and legal documents for legal risk, completion, and accuracy.Resolve title disputes and conflicts, and other legal issues.Research and analyze legal documents to ensure accuracy as per applicable laws and regulations.Advocate on behalf of clients’ interests to help optimize the terms of contracts and agreements.Monitor changes in real estate laws and advise clients on how changes may impact their real estate transactions.Verify the accuracy of legal documents to ensure compliance with relevant statutes, rules, and regulations.Working knowledge of title insurance, land use, business law, and residential and commercial real estate law, warranty, and also including litigation.Division Counsel Requirements and Qualifications

A J.D. degree from an accredited law school and license to practice law in the state of Texas.2-4 years of experience as a commercial real estate attorney, as a transactional attorney, or as corporate counsel for a real estate development firm.Able to effectively analyze legal documents.Excellent research, writing, and communication skills.Great negotiation and problem-solving skills.Excellent interpersonal skills.Ability to manage time and resources effectively and independently, and balance conflicting priorities.Proficient in MS Office.
