Energy Market Analyst

Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university, plus three (3) years of experience in a related field.

Master’s degree with major course work in a field related to the job may substitute for experience up to one (1) year.

PhD. with major course work in a field related to the job may substitute for experience up to two (2) years.

Licenses or Certifications:

Energy Market Analyst Senior

Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, plus five (5) years of experience in a related field.

A Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field related to the job may substitute for experience up to one (1) year.

PhD. from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field related to the job may substitute for experience up to two (2) years.

The Energy Market Analyst resides in the Energy Market Analysis & Resource Planning group of Energy and Market Operations Division. The group is responsible for various activities such as resource planning, renewable integration & evaluation, congestion revenue rights auction, load forecasting, fuel planning, analyzing market conditions, power purchase evaluation, and analyzing market design changes.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of Nodal electricity market and analyzing Locational Marginal Prices and their impacts on transporting power.

Knowledge of generation dispatch economics, asset valuation, power plant financial statements, and renewable source integration.

Knowledge of modeling transmission systems, energy markets, utility operations, and/or LMP (Nodal) markets using steady-state and security-constrained unit commitment and economic dispatch models.

Knowledge of analyzing causes and cost impacts of Transmission Congestion.

Knowledge of power/energy trading and electricity generation fuel market.

Knowledge of production cost models such as UPLAN/Aurora/Promod, etc.

Knowledge of SAS statistical programming languages such as R, Python or other scripting language and BI tools such as Tableau or MS Power BI.
