$47.14 - $58.90/hour; $8,170.93 - $10,209.33/month; $98,051.20 - $122,512.00/year

IntroductionThis continuous recruitment will remain open for the calendar year, or until the final filing date, whichever occurs first. The eligible list established from this continuous recruitment will expire by the end of the calendar year. Applicants will be eligible to reapply and take an examination if a new recruitment opens the following calendar year.

QualificationsPlacer County is currently accepting applications for Deputy District Attorney I, III, and IV. Each level in this job series has different minimum qualifications. To be eligible for more than one level in the series, you must complete and submit separate applications and supplemental questionnaires for each recruitment:Deputy District Attorney I #2024-14120-01Deputy District Attorney III #2024-14119-01Deputy District Attorney IV #2024-14123-01To be included in the first round of application screening, submit your application by 5:00 pm, on January 17, 2024. Following this date, applications will be screened on a bi-weekly basis.

POSITION INFORMATIONThe Placer County District Attorney’s Office is excited to announce openings for Deputy District Attorneys with all levels of experience. Our office offers a variety of assignments for prosecutors and seeks well qualified candidates who wish to have a positive impact on their community.

DEFINITIONTo perform professional legal work within the District Attorney's Office; to prepare and present civil and criminal cases in court; and to perform related work as assigned.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICSThis is a multi-level class series in which incumbents may be assigned to any one of four levels, depending upon organizational needs, professional legal experience, individual expertise and skill, proficiency gained, and the complexity and sensitivity of assigned cases.

Examples Of Essential DutiesDuties may include, but are not limited to, the following:Work within the District Attorney's Office, performing the full range of legal activities involving the investigation or prosecution of complex criminal or civil cases; prepare and present cases in court.Receive complaints and review reports filed by arresting officers or complainants; interview complainants and witnesses with regard to prospective complaints.Analyze, interpret and apply laws, court decisions and other legal authorities in the preparation of cases, opinions and briefs.Perform a wide variety of advanced legal research.Prepare opinions, briefs, pleadings, warrants, and other legal documents; dictate correspondence and reports.Work closely with affiliated law enforcement agencies from the county, State or Federal level as required by assigned case.Perform related duties as assigned.

Demonstrated possession of the eligibility requirements to take the California Bar Examination.

Required License Or Certificate

Active membership in the California State Bar to be obtained by date of appointment.May need to possess a valid driver's license as required by the position.

Knowledge Of

Legal principles and practices, including civil, criminal, constitutional law and related procedures.Rules of Court and Evidence Code.Legal research methods.

Ability To

Learn to investigate and prosecute criminal and civil law complaints.Analyze a case and determine the law's application; identify and interpret the applicable law or statute.Draft legal pleadings.Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

SELECTION PROCEDUREBased upon responses to the supplemental questionnaire, the applicant’s education, training, and experience will be evaluated.

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENTPrior to the date of hire, applicants must undergo a fingerprint test by the Department of Justice, pass a medical examination, and submit proof of U.S. citizenship or legal right to remain and work in the U.S.
