Serve as Regional Counsel supporting one or more divisions’ real property transactions, operations, and other legal matters. Responsibilities will include providing legal counsel, support, and documentation associated with (i) primarily, the acquisition of land and/or lots for new home communities, (ii) forward planning, entitlements, community association documents and disclosures, (iii) land use, (iv) the sale of homes to retail buyers, and (v) other homebuilding matters as a generalist.Essential Duties And ResponsibilitiesNegotiating and documenting sophisticated real property transactions for assigned divisions, and providing legal counsel concerning risks related thereto, participating in land investment committee presentations.Other (resolution of disputes, support of colleagues engaged in litigation management, managing use of outside counsel, resolution of regulatory issues, providing counsel in connection with day-to-day operations).Conducting, coordinating, or overseeing due diligence investigations for land deals (e.g., survey and title review, environmental risk, etc.).Drafting and modifying (and overseeing a paralegal in drafting and modifying) homebuilding-related documents, such as easements, disclosures, subcontracts and consultant agreements, restrictive covenants, and HOA instruments.Assisting in land entitlement and related land use matters.Education/Experience/Minimum RequirementsEducation/Certifications/LicensesCandidate must have a J.D. from an accredited law school.Active Bar license in Arizona is required.ExperienceFive or more years of relevant experience as an attorney either with a reputable law firm or in another in-house legal department.Prior experience in or with the homebuilding industry is preferred but not required.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesExtensive knowledge of real property transactions and negotiations.Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to take complex concepts and communicate succinctly and accurately.Strong ability to work within a team-setting, inclusive of others’ ideas, and ability to develop valuable relationships with division and corporate leadership.Makes quick and accurate decisions based heavily on facts, data, and/or metrics.Excellent project management skills, with the ability to prioritize assignments.Strong Business Acumen.Demonstrated leadership abilities, including being results oriented and a strong team motivator.Strong attention to detail.Work RequirementsMonthly travel required to the division offices supported outside of your home office, and occasional travel required to the corporate office.Conduct business in a professional and ethical manner to potential buyers, brokers, banking institutions, external officials, trade partners, and coworkers to reinforce goodwill and profitability for the company.Position will be located in Phoenix, AZ.Find out why KB Home is attracting and retaining the best employees!
