The practice provides consulting and expert opinions focusing on a broad range of energy-related matters, including regulatory and public policy, litigation, project development, market power analysis, and mergers and acquisitions. Depending on your experience, you would join as a Consultant II or Senior Consultant and contribute to all aspects of a project, from inception to completion. You will:Develop rigorous analyses, including but not limited to power systems and power flow, cost-benefit analysis, levelized cost analysis, and discounted cash flow methods in energy.Evaluate electric generation development and investment plans, market design, utility regulation, and transmission and distribution plans.Work with databases, spreadsheets, and other software tools to analyze data and other information and create economic and business models.Conduct research, synthesize facts, communicate with experts and clients, and prepare presentations, memorandums, expert reports, and testimony.Contribute to thought leadership and analyses.Collaborate closely with colleagues at all levels and backgrounds, from Consultants to PhD Economists, Partners, and Experts.Actively engage in the Bates White community by participating in mentoring, recruiting, training sessions, philanthropic events, and other initiatives.What you’ll bring to the tableUndergraduate degree required; Master’s degree preferred.Coursework in economics, applied statistics, finance, engineering, operations research, or related subjects preferred.2-4 years’ experience in the electric power sector, including wholesale power markets, electric utility regulation, generation and transmission planning, competitive procurement processes, and power systems analysis.Familiarity with the application of cost-benefit analysis, levelized cost analysis, and discounted cash flow methods in energy.General familiarity with the structure, policy, and regulation of the US energy sector.Familiarity with the economics of electric power markets and security-constrained economic dispatch in organized electric markets.Familiarity with the economics and regulation of international energy markets (including oil and gas) and policy initiatives related to global climate change.Experience with R and Stata statistical software a plus.Interest in working on energy-related projects.Strong analytical skills.Strong financial statement analysis skills.Strong oral and written communication skills.Strong Word, Excel, and PowerPoint expertise.Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced, and deadline-driven environment.Strong interpersonal skills and interest in working in a team-oriented environment.What you can expect from usWe are committed to providing an exceptional employee experience.
