Job Overview

The Tennessee Department of Health is seeking a litigation attorney to serve as an Associate Counsel in its Office of General Counsel. The duties for this position involve extensive litigation.

Key Responsibilities

The attorney will represent the Department in administrative law cases before various health licensure boards.

Prepare cases for litigation including medical record review, depositions, discovery, and trial.

Analyze proposed legislation affecting public health.

Intellectual curiosity, a litigation background, strong writing skills, and an interest in the healthcare industry are necessary.

Work in a dynamic, team-focused environment and handle a large case load at different phases of litigation.

Minimum Qualifications

Valid Tennessee Law License

Graduated from an accredited law school with a J.D.

Excellent research and writing skills

Proficient in use of Microsoft Word and Westlaw

Ability to make timely and effective decisions in keeping with the goals and mission of the department

No prior or pending disciplinary actions with the Tennessee Board of Professional Responsibility
