Job Description:Leap29 are currently working with a client who is actively engaged in developing utility-scale solar and energy storage solutions. They are looking for a Senior Vice President of Development to bolster their expanding team in a dynamic setting. The role will be office based in Texas.
Summary:The Senior Vice President of Development is tasked with spearheading and managing the development of greenfield projects across diverse markets. This critical leadership position involves guiding projects from the initial prospecting phase through to full development completion.
Responsibilities:
Manage all stages of greenfield development, encompassing tasks from initial prospecting and land acquisition through to development completion. This includes activities such as:
Land outreach, leasing, purchasing
Handling titles and surveys
Addressing transmission and interconnection
Securing local tax incentives
Obtaining permits
Conducting development studies
Direct and nurture a skilled and energetic project development team.
Build and maintain relationships with essential partners.
Lead regular project development meetings to ensure that tasks are appropriately prioritized and goals are achieved.
Offer strategic guidance to subordinates to assist in overcoming challenges.
Promote teamwork and ensure efficient cooperation both within the project development team and across other company departments.
Align project development efforts with the company's broad strategic objectives and goals.
Regularly assess and refine processes for improved adaptability and efficiency, particularly in response to organizational growth.
Handle the review, negotiation, and finalization of contracts associated with project development, focusing on reducing liabilities and ensuring the quality of documentation.
Participate in the examination and negotiation of project deals with clients and financial entities.
If necessary, act as the company's representative at crucial public forums to obtain permits or incentives.
Work collaboratively with the business development, legal, finance, and EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) teams to ensure seamless project progress.
Determine budgets, monitor capital expenditure tracking, and oversee budget management.
Authorize all procurement requests related to project development.
Compile and deliver monthly reports on project development for executive leadership and board review.
Aid the President in strategic planning and collaborate with fellow executives.
Contribute to the evaluation of and response to Requests for Proposals (RFPs).
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree
in Engineering, Business, or another relevant field is required, with a preference for candidates holding a Master's degree or MBA.
At least
15 years
of professional experience is essential,
5 years
in project development, ideally within the solar or renewable energy industries.
Extensive understanding of the entire greenfield project development cycle.
A track record of effectively leading, managing, and cultivating high-performing teams.
Demonstrated expertise in strategic planning and expanding business operations.
Skilled in budget management, capital expenditure monitoring, and financial oversight.
Exceptional oral and written communication abilities, capable of representing the organization at both public gatherings and meetings at the executive level.
Strong negotiation capabilities, particularly in the context of contracts, agreements, and project dealings.
Experience in collaborating with diverse team functions, such as legal, finance, and engineering departments.
Skilled in aligning team efforts with overarching strategic objectives of the company.
A solid history of delivering strategic insights and resolving complex issues.
Knowledgeable in enhancing processes and fostering organizational growth.
Proven competence in negotiating and finalizing agreements and contracts related to project development.
Established ability to build and maintain productive relationships with consultants, partners, and other key parties.
Adept at creating comprehensive reports for the consideration of executive leadership and board members.
Experience in analyzing and replying to Requests for Proposals (RFPs).
Flexibility in adjusting to the expansion of the organization and changes within the solar and renewable energy sectors.
Dedicated to ongoing professional development and keeping abreast of the latest industry innovations.
Willingness to work additional hours, including weekends, as necessary.
