As a member of the Data Science team, the Senior Data Scientist will engage in statistical and exploratory analysis of datasets such as medical devices data (e.g. insulin pumps and glucose sensors) and smart wearable devices, alongside patient contextual data, and use the insights to build robust classification and prediction models geared toward diabetes management products using advanced artificial intelligence, machine learning algorithms, and/or physiological modeling.The Senior Data Scientist will also play a role in advising and assisting strategic decision making by delving into new and existing data sources to define, monitor, and report on key product performance metrics, test and validate hypotheses, help prioritize product pipelines, and influence better product design decisions.Position Responsibilities:

Apply principles of machine learning and signal processing, develop algorithms in MATLAB or other software package to test conceptsDevelop and validate physiological models of using mathematical and statistical optimization, numerical methods and parameter estimation techniquesApply principles of dynamical systems to uncover characteristics and behaviors of patients from their biological signalsDrive novel applications of machine learning or physiological modeling to time series data from wearable devices such as glucose sensors, insulin pumps and activity trackersWrite, maintain, and peer-review production level code on code repositories using Git (GitHub and GitLab).Mine through varied data sources using structured (SQL) and non-structured (NoSQL) databases, as well as cloud computing and storage technologies (AWS); program complex queries; process, cleanse, and verify integrity of data used for analysis.Must Have: Minimum Requirements

4+ years of experience (Medical device industry preferred) in algorithm development with a bachelor’s degreeOR, 2+ years of experience (Medical device industry preferred) in algorithm development with an advanced degree (PhD, Masters)Specialized Knowledge or Skills Required:

Knowledge of and direct experience working with signal processing and machine learning methodologiesExtensive programming experience with MATLAB and/or PythonDemonstrated ability to work and lead within a team-based project environmentAbility to effectively communicate technical information through presentation and through the preparation of technical documentation and/or manuscriptsAbility to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journalsMachine Learning and/or Deep Learning project experience, preferably prototyping and/or deployment of such models in an industry setting; including techniques such as Random Forests, AdaBoost, Shapley analysis, Deep Neural Networks (NNN), Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN), Encoders, and/or Transformer Networks.Nice to Have

Industry or academic experience working with biological signals; preferably in medical devicesExperience in a regulated industry and exposure to regulatory submissionsExperience interacting with a multi-disciplinary, cross-functional teamExperience utilizing statistical methods to inform decision makingDemonstrated ability in managing/supporting multiple projects in a deadline driven environmentDemonstrated ability in producing written documentation such as specifications, engineering reports, test plans, test procedures, validation plans, and validation reportsAbout Medtronic
