Join Our Growing Team as a Construction Accountant in Downtown Chicago

We are a rapidly expanding minority-owned, self-performing contractor seeking a dedicated Construction Accountant to join our dynamic construction team at our downtown Chicago office.

Role Overview:

As a Construction Accountant, you will play a crucial role in project accounting, providing essential insights to support effective decision-making by project managers. Your responsibilities will encompass overseeing full-cycle accounting and monthly close activities, including credit card and bank reconciliations, and financial reporting. Additionally, you will manage internal payroll, certified payroll, union reporting, and ensure compliance with accounting regulations specific to the construction industry.

You will collaborate closely with our CPA during tax seasons and work alongside project managers and executives to support billing, financial reporting, and profitability analysis as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

Support Accounts Payable: Review and assist with business transactions, process invoices, and verify financial data for maintaining accurate records.

Support Accounts Receivable: Ensure timely and accurate processing of receivables, including invoicing and collections.

Process Certified Payroll.

Union Reporting.

Analyze and process job-related costs following internal control procedures.

Coordinate billing with the project team, ensuring accurate and timely billings and reconciling job costs.

Facilitate job closeout, preparing final financial performance documents and reconciling profit/loss.

Understand cash flow impacts on billed projects.

Support Functions: Assist with the review of owner contracts to identify contractual terms for accounting purposes.

Ensure subcontractor insurance compliance.

Candidate Profile:

The successful candidate will possess:

A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.

10+ years of experience in the construction industry.
