Full-TimeDescription

Reporting directly to the Chief Information Officer, the Director, Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence Systems provides leadership, vision, strategic planning, project management, and technical and operational planning for the team that develops, builds, and supports the University’s data warehouse. This position further develops strategy and tactical implementation of reporting and dashboarding tools, and collaborates across the institution, including with colleagues in Institutional Research and Internal Audit, to steward data governance policy and procedure. This position works closely with the Director of Enterprise Systems and other colleagues on the ITS senior leadership team to standardize and document data architecture across the broad span of enterprise systems supporting all divisions.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Provide oversight and be responsible for the collaborative planning, design, and implementation of the University’s core data warehouse and ELT systems (Snowflake and Informatica) and related systems used by those members of the community whose primary responsibilities focus on data curation and unit-level business processes.Provide oversight and be responsible for the collaborative planning, design, and implementation of Hofstra’s reporting and dashboarding infrastructure (Tableau), and related systems used by those members of the community whose primary responsibilities focus on business intelligence, reporting, and data analytics.Collaboratively, with colleagues from Internal Audit, Institutional Research, and other key stakeholders, steward the University’s Data Management Working Group.Collaboratively, with the input of those we serve, create the vision and plan for the ITS Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence team and lead its execution.Collaboratively lead the development of formal processes and best practices to ensure the reliability and sustainability of the team responsibilities.Maximize the effective use of team members to continually improve the effectiveness of the team and to further its mission.Develop the talents of team members by providing development opportunities, mentorship, and guidance on career paths. Provide inspiration, course corrections, and strive to make work fun.Provide tactical planning and oversight, helping to keep projects on track. Hold staff accountable for results and meeting deadlines.Develop, track, and manage the operating budget for the team.Research and recommend solutions, considering hosted and SaaS solutions where appropriate.Ensure data security and privacy standards are maintained in all data warehouses and applications.Design and test procedures around warehouse data backup/recovery/retention and collaborate with DBA team for implementation of procedures and otherwise as needed.Assist ITS in the development of best practices and actively engage in improving ITS and its processes.Participate in professional development activities.Perform other related duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required.

Preferred Qualifications

Seven or more years of professional experience, with an earned master’s degree in Information Technology or Data Analytics, or a related degree preferred, or equivalent additional professional experience in essential duties and responsibilities.Three or more years in a leadership, supervisory, or management role.Proven ability to effectively lead a group and mentor others.Broad background in the use of reporting and analytic software. Able to use Tableau, PowerBI, Excel, Crystal Reports, and other reporting tools.Ability to write SQL.Broad background in technology and firm understanding of databases and reporting trends (e.g., dashboards, visualizations). Understands relational and dimensional database models.Experience successfully running projects using one or more agile project management frameworks and associated tools, including Atlassian Jira.Ability to effectively communicate with customers and campus management.Proven excellence in client contact and strong communication skills.Ability to work both independently and within a team. Willing to collaborate, share ideas openly, and learn.Demonstrated understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the academic, cultural, and social diversity in the Hofstra University community.
