Job Summary

Responsible for providing legal advice and recommendations for action to executives and management within a variety of business units regarding matters of various complexities (basic to intermediate) which have or may have a sizable dollar impact on business activities and operations.

Job ResponsibilitiesPrimarily leverages knowledge of legal specialty in providing counsel as it builds its knowledge of the business context in which it operates.Review and prepare legal documents prior to presentation to management for execution to ensure accurate expression of the legal content.May receive specific direction from management or more senior law professionals as to the outcomes, process and schedules expected.Collaborates with the business units that it serves in order to achieve corporate objectives and mitigate unnecessary business risk.Research legal principles and precedents, engage and manage outside counsel, draft legal documents, gather relevant case related information using multiple sources and methods, provide work guidance to other professional, paraprofessional and support staff in developing solutions to problems presented.Maintain currency and fluency in the legal and business trends that could impact those business units within Walgreens that it serves.Implement comprehensive strategies to safeguard the Walgreens brand against unauthorized use, counterfeiting, and infringements. Monitor global markets, online platforms, and physical channels to identify and address instances of unauthorized merchandise, use of our brands and counterfeit products. Develop educational materials and training programs for internal and external stakeholders to raise awareness of brand protection measures.Enforce protection of Walgreens’ intellectual property rights, trademarks, and logos associated to prevent unauthorized usage. Manage and enforce brand guidelines for suppliers and partners, ensuring consistent representation and compliance with contractual obligations.Review, draft and negotiate a variety of marketing, sponsorship, co-branding, licensing, and creative services agreements. Support day-to-day legal review of materials developed by Walgreens advertising and marketing teams.Partner with Global Brands and Product Integrity teams including review and counseling related to advertising, social media, marketing campaigns, and product packaging and advising commercialization and brand marketing teams on regulatory requirements and legal risks. Work collaboratively with Walgreens litigation and compliance teams to support new consumer product development while handling issues that span the complete product lifecycle, including concept analysis, claim substantiation, label review, quality and recall scenarios, and considerations involving the FTC, FDA and National Advertising Division (NAD).Review of marketing materials and/or consumer product labels and marketing, including FTC as well as other state and local advertising laws.Maintain expertise and provide legal guidance, updates, reviews, and recommendations on existing and evolving laws (including state and federal statutes and regulations) and legal trends involving all aspects of ESG-related activities and operations as well as charitable gift laws and non-profit governance related to the Walgreens Foundation.Able to perform in a fast-paced environment where prioritization and ability to work independently are a requirement for success.

Basic QualificationsJuris Doctorate from an accredited law school and at least 5 years of post-bar attorney legal work experience in a combination of law firm and corporate settings.Required licensure to practice law in at least one state.Required Illinois bar membership or active bar membership in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.Experience using time management skills such as prioritizing/organizing and tracking details and meeting deadlines of multiple projects with varying completion dates.At least 2 years of experience contributing to financial decisions in the workplace.At least 3 years of direct leadership, indirect leadership and/or cross functional team leadership.
