Location/Division Specific Information:The Data Scientist - AI/ML is a remote based position (East Coast U.S. preferred) and will support the Analytical Services Division (ASD) Laboratories.
Discover Impactful WorkIn this role, we are excited for you to build artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) models that will be used to deploy projects that will improve the efficiency, productivity, and quality of laboratory processes. You will also apply innovative AI/ML methods to analyze and interpret intricate data sets within our laboratories.
You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to define research objectives, design experiments, and collect invaluable data. We need your help visualizing large datasets to convey sophisticated findings and recommendations to collaborators, and you will strive to stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in AI/ML, and integrate them into our work.
A Day in the Life:Lead innovations that support Materials Science that use Large Language Models, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Computer Vision, and Deep Learning.Effectively collaborates with cross-functional partners to identify questions and business challenges and decides plans of action to define, design, and develop ML models and algorithms to derive insights into each problem.Generates and tests hypotheses and analyzes and interprets the results.Navigates large, complex datasets for data mining, profiling, and curation, and natural language processing (NLP), as well as identifies related data that is fundamental to successfully applying predictive and ML techniques.Designs, develops and programs methods, processes, and AI/ML programs to consolidate, cleanse, and analyze unstructured, diverse data sources to recognize patterns, identify opportunities, and generate actionable business insights and solutions.Designs, develops, and evaluates predictive models and algorithms that lead to optimal value extraction from the data to support business process improvements and solve business challenges.Identifies meaningful insights from large data and metadata sources in support of continuous improvement efforts and business process upgrades through exploratory data analysis.Effectively communicates and guides stakeholders through the machine learning process; interprets and communicates findings and solutions from analysis and experiments to a broad audience, including business leadership.
Keys to Success:Education:Bachelor's degree in data science, computer science or related field, or equivalent and relevant formal academic / vocational qualification.Experience:Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 5+ years).In some cases, an equivalency, consisting of a combination of appropriate education, training and/or directly related experience, will be considered sufficient for an individual to meet the requirements of the role.Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:Experience working with large-scale datasets and distributed computing frameworks.Skilled at NLP, fluency with machine learning libraries such as scikit learn (sklearn), pytorch, tensorflow.Familiarity with cloud computing platforms, such as Azure or Databricks and other applications such as Power Apps, PowerBI, Power Automate.Programming experience with Python, R, or JavaScript.Expertise in data preprocessing techniques, feature engineering, and data augmentation.Validated understanding of statistical methodologies and their applications in data analysis and modeling.Solid understanding of application of statistics, programming, data modeling, simulation, and advanced mathematics to business questions for data analysis.Demonstrated skills involving structured and unstructured data, machine learning, model validation techniques, and data visualization techniques.Proficiency with the following data science approaches: data engineering, pipelining and wrangling tools, data visualization and modeling tools, and mathematical approaches to imperfect data.Extensive knowledge of data management approaches such as relational databases, data schemas, object stores, column stores, triple stores, graph stores, and/or document stores.Consistent record of delivering work products in a cross-functional matrix environment spanning data warehousing, data modeling, and data analytics while leading multiple priorities.Ability to communicate effectively and influence at all levels.Demonstrated creativity in identifying non-traditional data sources in addition to rigorous application of leading analytic techniques.
