San Joaquin General Hospital (SJGH), originally established in 1857, is a general acute care facility providing a full range of inpatient services including General Medical/Surgical Care, High-Risk Obstetrics and Neonatal Intensive Care, Pediatrics and Intensive Care. In addition to the 196-bed hospital, the medical campus includes multiple facilities dedicated to comprehensive outpatient services including Primary Care and Specialty Clinics. The Hospital's Ambulatory Care sites, including offices located at French Camp and Stockton provide over 1,340,000 outpatient clinic visits a year.In addition to providing direct medical services, the hospital is active in providing education for health professionals through post-graduate residency programs in General Surgery, Internal Medicine and Family Practice and has trained over 3,000 physicians since the residency programs were established in 1932. The hospital also participates in clinical affiliation agreements for training programs in a variety of health professions including Registered and Licensed Vocational nurses, Pharmacists, Radiology Technologies, Social Workers and Respiratory Therapists.San Joaquin General Hospital is a public hospital certified by The Joint Commission as a Primary Stroke Center. The hospital Certified Stroke Program has achieved recognition by American Heart & Stroke Association and is recipient of the Gold Plus Award. SJGH’s provides comprehensive treatment for trauma patients as the designated Level III Trauma Center for San Joaquin County.The Diagnostics Imaging Department is comprised of seven specialties: Radiography, CT Scan, MRI, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, Mammography and Interventional Radiology. We also sponsor a Radiologic Technology training program. Services are provided in a culturally sensitive, community-oriented, caring manner with the highest regard for patient confidentiality and customer service. This examination is being given to fill one (1) full-time vacancy in the Radiology Department at San Joaquin General Hospital and to establish an eligible list to fill future vacancies. Radiologic Technologist I's have an opportunity to promote to a Radiologic Technologist II after the incumbent has obtained eighteen (18) months of experience performing radiographic work.Pre-Employment Drug Screening and Background:

Potential new hires into this classification are required to successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and background as a condition of employment. Vacation Accrual Rate: San Joaquin County vacation accrual rate consistent with the candidate's total years of public service.Sick Leave: Candidates leaving other employment may receive credit for actual non-reimbursable sick leave hours (up to 160 hours) from their last agency. Prepares and positions patients for diagnostic x-ray films; determines the correct exposure factors on the basis of height, weight, portion of body involved and degree of penetration required; selects appropriate cones and screens to reduce secondary radiation and fogging; sets machine control and exposes the required number and type of film.Learns to assist Radiologist in fluoroscopic and other minor interventional x-ray procedures; assembles equipment; measures and mixes barium and contrast media; maintains surveillance over patients, performs radiographs as necessary for the radiographic procedure.Records patient information, patient identification numbers, and number and type of views taken in-patient log; maintains records as required.Demonstrates procedures to students; monitors students' performance of procedures, correcting faulty technique and explaining appropriate methods.May receive on-the-job instructions in mammography and related quality control and quality assurance documentation.Develops exposed film using automatic processors.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

License and Certificates:

Registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, and certification by the Department of Health, State of California, as Radiologic Technologist.Note:

Generally, persons who are registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists may obtain certification as a Radiologic Technologist in the State of California upon application and payment of fees to the State Department of Health.Special Requirement:

Possession of a State of California Certificate in mammography or a State of California fluoroscopy permit may be required as condition for advancement to the Radiologic Technologist II classification.KNOWLEDGE

Methods and techniques of diagnostic radiography; various anatomical positions used in radiography; and care and use of radiographic equipment; and safety practices to prevent overexposure to radiation.ABILITY

Sit and/or stand for extended periods of time, manual dexterity sufficient to administer procedures and operate equipment, bend, stoop and lift patients; understand and carry out complex oral and written instructions in exact detail; demonstrate the operation of x-ray equipment in practical work situations; position patients for a variety of radiography procedures; work effectively with medical staff, patients, and co-workers; and maintain records.PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Mobility:

Frequent operation of a keyboard, standing for long periods of time, walking, pushing/pulling, and operation of heavy equipment; occasional sitting for long periods of time and stair climbing; Frequency of Lifting:

The County maintains a deferred compensation plan under Section 457 of the IRS code. You may annually contribute $18,000 or 100% of your includible compensation, whichever is less.
