Job Description
What’s the role?We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer I, Payments to join our Seller Commerce team.As a Senior Engineer on the Payments Commerce team, you will be responsible for collaboratively designing and building software solutions to expand Etsy's seller-side commerce platform, working closely with other members of the team to identify and prioritize technical requirements and have a role in the design and implementation of complex software systems. If so, this could be the perfect match.This is a full-time position reporting to the Engineering Manager, Payments and the base salary range will be 152,000-178,000 USD per year. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy. This role requires your presence in Etsy’s Brooklyn office in an in-person or flex capacity.What does the day-to-day look like?You will work in a cross-functional team and can expect to partner with other engineers, a product manager, and other partners including Etsy’s analytics and product design teams.You'll sit within Etsy’s Seller Commerce team which is responsible for helping Etsy’s sellers grow their business by reaching buyers wherever they are - whether it’s on Etsy, in-person, or on other platforms.This team is currently working on foundational product initiatives to improve the core payments offering for sellers and will soon move on to projects focusing on seller fraud mitigation. Working closely with Etsy's Risk team, Payments will pursue a complementary strategy to identify risk aggressively, protecting and maintaining trust with Etsy's sellers and buyers.Of course, this is just a sample of the kinds of work this role will require! You should assume that your role will encompass other tasks, too, and that your job duties and responsibilities may change from time to time at Etsy's discretion, or otherwise applicable with local law.
Qualifications
Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:Ability to operate within a large codebase and learn how to create simplicity from complex systems.You have experience building web applications, using both back-end technologies (we use PHP, MySQL) and front-end (JavaScript, React, CSS).Product development experience with the ability to write understandable, testable code with an eye toward maintainability.Strong debugging skills, allowing you to determine the source of issues in unfamiliar code or systems.Comfortable collaborating closely with a distributed team.Experience providing estimates or product ideas that will influence the team’s roadmap.Interested in the health and performance of the applications your team owns.(Bonus) Knowledge of the larger payments ecosystem and industry trends.
