POSITION INFORMATION
Title: Director of Human Resources

POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Human Resources (Director) is responsible for working as a trusted partner in developing and implementing human resources (HR) strategies that align with the mission, vision, values and aspirations of the University of Hawai'i Foundation (UHF). The Director will be the lead resource in areas of employee relations, engagement, organizational development, recruitment and retention, compensation and benefits, performance management, training and development, human resource information management, and compliance.
This skilled and proactive leader is highly adept in all facets of human resource management. The Director has a proven track record of balancing a long-term recruitment and retention strategy with tactical execution. This leader must build on UHF's past success, while developing new and creative responses to the ever-changing challenges of staffing and compensation in non-profit organizations. The Director is an organized multi-tasker who can strategically manage and lead a team while overseeing a wide range of initiatives in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Specific responsibilities and performance expectations include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
EVALUATION
The Director will meet annually with their supervisor to put in place a plan for the year. At the end of each year, the Director and their supervisor will review progress toward the annual goals.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Based at the Walter Dods, Jr RISE Center at 1810 University Avenue, Suite 300, Honolulu, HI 96822, on the Island of 'Oahu, the Director of Human Resources will work primarily in an office environment and will need to sit or stand for extended periods while either working at a computer, attending a meeting, or performing desk work. The Director may need to visit areas of the University campus. The Director must have a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record or must have an acceptable mode of transportation. The Director may need to work some evenings and weekends and must be able to work to the demands of the position, which may exceed a 40-hour work week.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Specific responsibilities and performance expectations include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Work closely with UHF leadership to ensure the continuous review of organizational structures, responsibilities, teamwork, business or operating procedures, reporting relationships and work processes to recommend improvements and/or design more efficient work methods or relationships.
- Serve as a resource to UHF leaders on various areas involving talent management such as employee relations, recruitment and retention, performance management, training and development, and compliance.
- Plan, develop and implement HR related policies and programs that will create and support a culture that emphasizes quality, productivity, standards, goal attainment, and compliance and strives to create the best place to work.
- In collaboration with the VP of Advancement Services & Administration and the COO & CFO, analyze current employee benefits packages.
- Work closely with supervisors to ensure an appropriate professional work environment.
- Ensure the proper administration and management of recruitment/hiring/employment processes, payroll related processes, benefits programs, workers compensation, temporary disability (TDI), and FMLA, unemployment issues, personnel file management, EEOC related claims, and overall HR functions.
- Provide consultation, recommendations, and confidential support and guidance for all staff.
- Demonstrate leadership qualities that enable staff to openly bring forth issues and concerns, engaging them to discuss solutions.
- Create and maintain all personnel files and related HR documentation; as well as ensuring timely and accurate HR data entry for all employee related information into payroll system.
- Serve as a key advocate, champion and amplifier of UHF's corporate culture.
- Other duties and activities in support of the UHF mission as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of seven (7) plus years of progressive experience in HR management experience required
- A Bachelor's degree in HR, Business, or a related field required
- Membership in professional HR association(s), such as Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or Professional in Human Resources (PHR), certification a plus
- A proven track record of collaborating with senior leadership on strategic goals
- Ability to work on cross-functional teams
- Knowledge of employment laws and regulations both at the State and Federal levels
- Strong operational experience: ideally has worked in a senior management role in a socially responsible organization with progressive experience in operational/administrative management
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills including conflict resolution skills
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- A proven deep understanding of all aspects of human resources compliance in a complex, non-profit organization
- Outstanding leadership and skillful management of a strong, dedicated, and effective HR staff
- Proficiency in using Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams)
- Experience working with HRIS systems, ADP preferred
- Skilled in organizational development, personnel management, budget and resource development, and strategic planning
- Demonstrated success developing and monitoring systems to manage both operational and programmatic work that involve high levels of collaboration
- Excellent people skills, with an ability to partner with a dynamic leadership team
- Possess personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and commitment to the mission of UHF
- Flexible and able to multi-task; can work within an ambiguous, fast-moving environment, while also driving toward clarity and solutions with a demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and guiding investment in people and systems
