R102170Minimum Requirements:Law degree (JD) from accredited institution, admission in good standing to the KY Bar Association or eligibility for admission within 6 months. 2 years of experience as a practicing attorney. Additional experience may not be used on a one-to-one basis to offset the educational requirements.Position Description:Under the supervision of the Clinic Director, the Staff Attorney will provide instruction to third-year law students in how to represent low-income litigants in Jefferson County Circuit and District Courts and provide direct supervision during all court appearances and for all client correspondence. The Staff Attorney will generally serve as backup for the Director.Duties and Responsibilities:

Remain in regular communication with students to answer a wide variety of legal questions relating to client representation, including what legal advice to relay to the client and troubleshooting clients' ever-evolving, often emergent, life crises.Demonstrate/Instruct students on legal analysis for each case assigned. This includes reviewing client petitions, researching every party's criminal record, investigating whether other evidence exists, conducting an effective interview, strategizing our representation, crafting a direct and cross examination, anticipating legal arguments, directly supervising students during court appearances, documenting activity on cases.Editing and correcting all student hearing materials ahead of a court appearance, including writing out potential objections and responses and citing appropriate KRS and KRE.Develop templates, forms, and instructional materials as needed for clinic instruction.Involvement in community organizations for the purposes of training and fostering goodwill in our community.Compensation
