Job Description - Clinical Laboratory Assistant, Day - Core Lab (3301265)Clinical Lab Assistant - Core LaboratoryDay Shift - 7am – 3:30pm, Tuesday -Saturday (Sunday and Monday off), rotating holidays.About the Role:The Clinical Laboratory Assistant performs a variety of clerical and technical duties under general supervision, reporting to a Laboratory Supervisor or Manager. Responsibilities include receiving, accessioning, centrifuging, and decanting patient specimens, as well as communicating with clinicians.Key Responsibilities:Visitor Interaction : Greets and assists visitors at the Front Window.Sample Management : Sorts, prioritizes, and receives patient specimens.Accessioning : Enters patient information accurately into the computer and labels specimens.Processing : Operates automated sample processing instrumentation and transfers samples.Communication : Responds to telephone inquiries and processes add-on requests.Documentation : Faxes reports, sorts, and files requisitions, and follows department protocols.Safety and Cleanliness : Maintains a safe and clean working environment.Qualifications:Education : High School Diploma or equivalent.Experience : Previous laboratory, healthcare, or customer service experience preferred.Skills : Interpersonal and communication skills for effective interaction, ability to multitask and work accurately under stress, attention to detail, manual dexterity, and visual accuracy, computer proficiency, including Microsoft Windows, and English language proficiency for communication.Working Conditions:Clinical laboratory environment handling potentially biohazardous body fluid samples.Hectic or stressful work environment at times.Prolonged periods of sitting or standing, with occasional lifting up to 20 lbs.Join our team to make a significant impact in patient care by ensuring the diagnostic viability of specimens and contributing to efficient lab operations.Massachusetts General Hospital is an Affirmative Action Employer.
