Specializations in our department are vast and include statistical science, social statistics, and biometry and range from computational statistics and machine learning to statistical methods for astrophysics, genomics, medicine, legal studies, and much more.Cornell Tech is a revolutionary model for graduate education that fuses technology with business and creative thinking. The university's central IT organization is comprised of Cornell Information Technologies (CIT) and the Office of the CIO. They collaborate with the IT Service Groups (ITSGs) and a variety of partners and stakeholders to manage the IT infrastructure and provide university-wide services to the Cornell community. CIT is responsible for supporting the business infrastructure, informational software, and video, data, and telecommunications services at Cornell.

The Opportunity

The Engineering/Bowers CIS/Tech Campus ITSG Infrastructure team provides systems administration related to data center management, server hardware design, builds and deployments, server operating systems, cluster design, configuration and management, server applications installations and configurations, network infrastructure, computing resources in a complex environment comprising of Linux and Windows Servers, and VMware virtualization platform, across multiple buildings, geographical locations, and business units. This advanced environment provides support for both business administrative solutions, advanced Engineering/Bowers CIS/Tech Campus centric learning solutions, and research environments.

This role is responsible for administering systems infrastructure, core server applications, and networking and security.

Duties and activities include:

Design, deploy, and manage production clusters and servers (physical and virtual) in support of research (Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Vision, Reasoning, Robotics) and instructional needs in the Engineering/Bowers CIS/Tech Campus and CIT hosted infrastructure and research environments.Lead architect function for designing and validating efforts related to testing, evaluating, and implementing solutions using emerging technologies to meet customer needs.Integrate advanced compute systems into the existing heterogeneous computing environment that includes Linux, Windows, and MacOS.Develop, maintain, and enhance our supported infrastructure in multiple buildings, geographical locations and units.Develop and implement infrastructure solutions in accordance with University Policy 5.10, Information Security.Develop and implement procedures for system administration to ensure stability and reliability of Engineering/Bowers CIS/Tech Campus system infrastructure.Mentoring and OJT of other team members on technical solutions.What We Need

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a computer related technical field or equivalent combination of education and work experience with

ten (10) years

of experience managing

Linux servers and clusters , for example

HPC, HTC, HESPC (High-End Shared Pooled Clusters),

in a complex technical environment. Formal training beyond a four year program or degree is desirable.Advanced in-depth working knowledge of

Linux server administration , including installation, configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting, backup, recovery, and client support, required.

Ten (10) years (prefer fifteen (15) years)

experience providing technical support and documentation.A strong in-depth knowledge of cloud services and various virtualization platforms.Design, development and administration of Linux and Windows core services.Scripting proficiency on any platforms as needed, and design solutions for new platforms.Advanced software packaging and deployment knowledge.Understanding and ability to address advanced and challenging interoperability issues.Proven critical thinking and lead architectural experience, diagnostic, and problem solving skills are essential to the successful performance of this role.Excellent understanding of computer hardware, TCP/IP networking, network and computer security issues, and backup/disaster recovery techniques is required.A strong background with a minimum of

ten (10) years

in evaluating future technologies and both designing and providing recommendations for new solutions.Demonstrated ability to interact with others on a collaborative team toward a shared project goal in a dynamic, complex, team-based environment.Ability to work well with a diverse group in a professional and respectful work environment.Demonstrated ability to mentor others, lead technical design discussions and provide OJT on technical solutions.Excellent oral and written communication skills.Ability to juggle multiple priority tasks. Initiative to provide high quality service to the Engineering/Bowers CIS/Tech Campus community is required.Strong service orientation.University Related Requirements:
