Job Purpose

Under the direction of the Principal, the Learning Guide will partner with the teacher in the academic success and character development of all scholars in the assigned classroom and/or grade level. The Learning Guide will have flexibility to provide coverage for short and/or long-term vacancies of teachers and teaching assistants. The Learning Guide will work closely with scholars, parents, and school administration to ensure excellent facilitation which will lead to outstanding educational outcomes.

Essential Responsibilities

Support a positive, achievement-oriented, and structured learning environment where all scholars are invested in their academic excellence, character, and faith growth and can fulfill their potential

Lead lesson preparation and internalization (making copies, gathering materials, passing out supplies, etc.). This does not include lesson planning.

Partner with teacher and/or prepared educational resources to achieve the highest outcomes for students and actively engage in the planning process

Flexible to provide coverage for short and/or long-term vacancies of teachers and teaching assistants.

Apply classroom management techniques to invest scholars in their learning and utilize appropriate scholar corrections and disciplinary actions

Maintain accurate and complete records, including but not limited to attendance, behavior, and student achievement data

Set and hold scholars accountable to extremely high academic and school-wide behavioral standards

Facilitate virtual or in person lessons, assessments, and our Christian Character Formation lessons.

Support students through one-on-one tutoring or small group instruction, implementing remediation or acceleration with guidance from the teaching team

Maintain on-task behavior in the classroom by consistently monitoring, complimenting, checking for understanding and refocusing students

Support students on educational technology - helping with log in and computer usage, troubleshooting, reinforcing procedures, answering questions and monitoring student activity

Responsible for keeping educational technology materials in secured, organized, and good working condition

Monitor students during lunch, recess, arrival, dismissal, and other key transitions throughout the day

Aggressively monitor student work during independent work time to identify gaps in understanding

Recognize, celebrate, and reward scholar achievement and character development

Build rapport and meaningful relationships with the scholars, parents, and families

Continually improve teaching skills by receiving coaching and seeking out professional development opportunities

Receive advanced training on bridge resources, educational tools, classroom and instructional methods.

Provide input to improving the quality of innovation ideas.

Live and act as a biblical role model and HOPE Christian Schools representative in your life for our scholars, team members and community.

Agree to comply with and advance our Code of Conduct and Statement of Faith.

Agree to engage in the faith life of our scholars and in collaboration with other team members

Maintain accurate and complete records, including but not limited to: attendance, behavior, student achievement data, grades, progress reports, parent communication, textbooks, etc.

Apply classroom management techniques and appropriate scholar corrections and disciplinary actions

Assume responsibility for scholar success by holding all scholars accountable to school-wide behavioral expectations

Recognize, celebrate, and reward scholar achievement and character development

Academic Excellence

Establish a positive, achievement-oriented, and structured learning environment where all scholars are invested in their academic excellence and character growth and can fulfill their potential

Set measurable, ambitious, and attainable goals for the year and each interim assessment cycle

Evaluate individual scholar academic progress through regular and varied assessments

Qualifications

High School diploma required, having or working toward a bachelor's degree preferred

Experience working with youth and families in low-income urban communities

Experience working in a school is a plus

Proficient with technology
