We currently serve over 2,000 scholars in TK-8th grade in four elementary schools and two middle schools. Equitas Academy is based in the Pico-Union neighborhood of Los Angeles, California.Our MissionEquitas Academy prepares students for college, careers, and life pursuits, and inspires them to be champions of equity.Position DescriptionThe primary role of the Academic Coordinator is to support scholars with IEPs through small group instruction, co-teaching, push-in classroom support, and reading intervention.ResponsibilitiesProvide support to students with special education needs to achieve IEP goalsCollaborate with a scholar's general education and RSP teacherFacilitate reading intervention, small group instruction and pull out groupsCo-teach with the general education teacherReview and implement lesson plansPush into middle school classrooms to support instruction, especially for students with IEPsActively participate in professional development aimed at refining both school culture and academicsMaintain high behavioral expectations for scholar behavior at all times and enforce Equitas Academy’s restorative discipline approachMaintain open lines of communication with staff, parents, and other stakeholdersPerform other duties as assignedKnowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesStrong commitment to the mission and vision of Equitas AcademyDeep, passionate, and action oriented belief in our mission to support all of our scholars to and through collegeStrong communication with scholars, staff and parentsProven ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of peopleAbility to work with a variety of learning abilities, including those with special needsDemonstrated ability to work well in a teamA belief in structured classroom environments and high expectations for all studentsPrior experience working with students with mild to moderate needs strongly preferredMinimum RequirementsBA degree requiredSpecial education credential, enrollment in a program, or intention to enroll in a program within one year requiredCriminal clearance, including fingerprints and TB TestCPR Certification required within 60 days of hireExperience working with youth, preferably youth with special needsCommitment to DiversityEquitas Academy is actively seeking to build a diverse and experienced team of educators.
