Join Gilead and help create possible, together.Job DescriptionThe Automation group in Gilead’s Protein Therapeutics Department at Foster City has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Research Associate. He/She will be a key member of a team enabling Gilead’s biologics research through high throughput protein expression and purification by automation. The successful candidate will support the expansion of the group’s capabilities and capacity through implementation of automated liquid handling solutions.Specific ResponsibilitiesExecute high throughput expression and purification workflows in support of antibody discovery and lead optimization campaignsCollaborate in the design of new automated workflows to expand recombinant protein expression and purification capacity at various scalesIndependently design, execute, and evaluate experiments to select new automation instrumentation or optimize existing processesSupport members of Protein Therapeutics on established automation processesPresent results in multiple settings and attend project meetingsMaintain familiarity with the relevant scientific literatureQualificationsB.S. with minimally 4+ years or M.S. with 2+ years in Biochemistry, Chemistry, or related discipline in a lab-based automation experience and protein sciences is required. Job title may be adjustable based on proven track record and experience. An ideal candidate will have most of the following qualifications:Solid hands-on experience in maintaining, operating, and optimizing a liquid handling platform such as Tecan, Hamilton, or BiomekExperience implementing new automation or high throughput workflowsExperience with protein expression and affinity-based protein purification. Experience with mammalian protein expression in HEK293 or CHO is preferredExperience with writing scripts (R, Python, C, etc) for data processing or analysis is a plusStrong attention to detail in sample tracking and quality controlAbility to plan and prioritize time and effort effectively to meet deadlines and achieve deliverablesStrong written and oral communication skills, with an ability to work in a dynamic, collaborative, and evolving environmentThe salary range for this position is: $107,270.00 - $138,820.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
