Senior Accountant, Accounts Payable

The Senior Accountant - Accounts Payable will be able to lead all financial transactions that are accurately recorded, that reports are prepared in a timely and accurate manner and that the Accounting Team adheres to established policies and procedures. The ideal candidate would be a highly motivated and energetic individual who is able to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks and coordinate with multiple people.DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESCompiles vendor payment requests, sufficient supporting documentation, proper authorization, and account codes in the AP system, Chrome River, Divvy and:

Reviews invoices and account coding for accuracy and compliance with APA policiesResearches and resolves discrepancies with vendors and APA staff as neededGenerates payment via check, ACH transactions, and wire transfers timely and in accordance with APA’s payment schedule

Requests appropriate tax forms from vendors for yearend tax reportingRecords funds received/owed by wire, ACH, credit card and check daily within subledger and general ledger systemManages accurate vendor file records in the AP and financial accounting systemsLeads staff and member expense/travel reimbursements, and assists individuals with submissions in Chrome River as neededPrepares assigned balance sheet account reconciliations and coordinates with budget managers on discrepanciesAssists in reconciling company credit cards monthlyManages a list of outstanding and unclaimed checks and coordinates with vendors and appropriate APA staff to resolve issuesManages the accounts payable accounts monthly and yearend close processes, including reconciliations and journal entriesLeads with accurate preparing and processing of 1099s annuallyAssists in preparing audit schedules in support of the annual financial statement auditCollaborates in developing and implementing accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and best practicesLeads in Chrome River training to staff periodically and/or when neededHelps maintain and update the accounting system and ensure that all data is accurate and up to dateConducts regular audits and reviews of accounting processes and controls to identify and mitigate any risks and issuesCollaborates with Finance department in the development of new policies and proceduresBacks up for other Senior Accountants and Senior Accounting ManagerOther accounting duties as assignedCOMPETENCIESThe Senior Accountant - Accounts Payable performance on these duties and responsibilities will be measured using the following competencies:SCOPE & IMPACTLeads the daily activities of all aspects of the specific areas in the Finance Department that are currently assigned to the role currently: Accounts Payable.Performs tasks that significantly impact Finance and require the ability to gather, organize, verify, compose, and/or analyze established concepts, policies, and procedures to complete several multistep functionsDemonstrates proficiency in Accounts PayableSuccess is frequently measured by completing a complex set of tasks and demonstrating complex and nuanced individual and group work environment behaviorsCOMPLEXITY, PROBLEM SOLVING & DECISION-MAKINGExercises judgment to choose a work method/procedure and to schedule tasks appropriately to meet guidelines within the Finance departmentMust demonstrate sound decision-making in a range of different situations within the Finance departmentHas authority to make decisions relevant to day-to-day operationsIdentifies complex problems and issues.
