Faculty Appointment, VTCSOM Carilion Clinic, Roanoke VirginiaCarilion Clinic in Southern Virginia’s Blue Ridge Region provides care for 26 counties and over 1 million Virginians; addiction to opioids, stimulants, nicotine, and/or alcohol (among others) are at epidemic levels here. We are dedicated to making a difference in the lives of our patients, their families, and our communities. As the Director of Addiction Psychiatry, you will lead a multi-faceted team of physicians, advanced care providers, therapists, and behavioral specialists focusing on patients with chemical dependency issues. We are developing new ways to understand and treat addictive disorders as we seamlessly blend treatment, research, and education using public and private support networks and intensive programs. We offer adults and adolescents both outpatient and inpatient care at specialized facilities located in southwest Virginia. Carilion Clinic Psychiatric facilities include 61 adult beds (across two facilities) and 16 adolescent beds and multiple ambulatory sites.Our department has implemented state-of-the-art treatment for opioid use disorder including our ED Bridge program and our inpatient Pathways program for patients with substance use disorders and infectious complications such as endocarditis and sepsis. Our department continues to evolve evidence-based treatment for multiple substance use disorders. We incorporate peer recovery specialists and a range of technology and innovative techniques in collaboration with addiction researchers at Virginia Tech and the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute. Our faculty includes psychiatrists who are board-certified in both addiction psychiatry and addiction medicine certified physicians from across Carilion, including Emergency Medicine and Ob/Gyn. We have an established Fellowship in Addiction Medicine that is part of this organizational structure. We work closely with research collaborators at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute and the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine in growing many initiatives. We are also partnered with the Virginia Department of Health, Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services, and many community agencies to expand and evaluate care delivery models.The Director of Addiction Psychiatry will be responsible for helping guide and coordinate efforts across multiple Departments (as part of Carilion Clinic’s Addiction Taskforce) that exist in the Departments of Emergency Medicine, Family and Community Medicine, Internal Medicine, and Obstetrics and Gynecology. The Director is encouraged to build a research and scholarly portfolio and is eligible for faculty appointment to the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine.Qualifications:Experience: 5 years of leadership in a similar capacity is preferred.Desired candidates are trained in Addiction Medicine (and General Psychiatry), Addiction Psychiatry, or are Board eligible/certified in General Psychiatry with an interest in focusing on patients with addictions.About Carilion:At Carilion, our employees know they can depend on each other to give their all every day, working together to do the job right.
