The Role
At a16z, we believe data is at the core of making informed decisions and effectively supporting our portfolio companies. Our Data & Analytics team builds and manages the infrastructure that supports our data lake (Databricks), data pipelines (dbt), data ingestion (Fivetran & custom Python scripts), and data visualizations (Looker/Hex). We leverage cutting-edge GenAI alongside more traditional data & analytics to empower our firm.
As a Full Stack Engineer within our centralized data organization, you will play a pivotal role in developing applications for our large language model (LLM) projects. You will work across the entire stack, from front-end development to backend systems, ensuring seamless integration and functionality. Your ability to move up and down the stack as needed will be critical in delivering robust and user-friendly applications.

Design, develop, and maintain front-end applications using modern frameworks and toolsBuild and optimize backend services and APIs to support front-end functionalitiesWork with LLMs and build robust applications that leverage GenAICollaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and translate them into technical solutionsImplement best practices for code quality, performance, and security across the stackDevelop and integrate with third-party tools, such as Slack, to enhance user experiencesWork with data analytics pipelines and workflows to ensure seamless data integration and processingTroubleshoot and resolve issues across the stack, ensuring high availability and reliability of applicationsStay current with industry trends and technologies, and continuously improve our technology stack and development processes
Minimum Qualifications
6+ years of experience in full-stack development, with a strong focus on both front-end and backend technologies.Experience working with LLMs, either in a work or hobby capacity, preferredProficiency in front-end frameworksProven ability to build and maintain RESTful APIs and integrate with third-party servicesExperience with database technologies such as SQLFamiliarity with data analytics pipelines, workflows, and platforms such as DatabricksExcellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environmentStrong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teamsKnowledge of cloud platforms and services, such as AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, DatabricksExperience with building chat-based applications preferredFamiliarity with containerization technologies such as Docker preferredLow ego, high empathy, and the capacity to collaborate effectively with diverse teamsBachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
The anticipated salary range for this role is between $225,000-$263,000, actual starting pay may vary based on a range of factors which can include experience, skills, and scope.
This role is eligible to participate in the a16z Carry program and various discretionary bonus programs as well as benefit and perquisite plans including health, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, 401K plan, vacation, and sick leave.
