Position Focus:Reporting to the Senior Director of Development and External Affairs for Yale University Library and Yale Collections, the Assistant Director serves as a key member of the Library and Collections development team. The team is responsible for partnering with staff and leadership to advance fundraising initiatives supporting the Library and Collections. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in fundraising activities and overseeing multiple priorities and resources, and they will be a skilled writer/editor, familiar with relational databases, and able to work across teams.

Essential Responsibilities:Works with the Senior Director and leadership to determine fundraising goals and help drive individual fundraising.Identifies, cultivates, and solicits donors who will support these areas.Manages or co-manages various individual prospects closely affiliated with these areas.Cultivates and solicits donors for gifts and collaborates with colleagues in Leadership Giving, Major Gifts, the Alumni Fund, Reunion Giving, and Planned Giving.Partners with the Senior Director in building engagement tools for prospects.Helps identify volunteers to fill leadership roles and develop opportunities for involvement.Performs donor and other research in conjunction with other teams.Provides high-level strategic thinking, writing, and coordination to enhance the unit's fundraising efforts.Writes and edits materials for Campaign and general fundraising activities.Helps to create and staff events that advance fundraising goals.Prepares reports and analyzes data related to development.Collaborates with stakeholders and may represent fundraising programs at meetings.May serve on committees and attend meetings as assigned.

Essential Duties:Measures success of developmental events and programs; recommends changes.Contributes to planning and implementing cultivation and solicitation activities.Researches and identifies potential new donors.Contributes to development of financial solicitation programs, meets activity and revenue goals.Analyzes grant-making organizations to identify likely funding sources.Compiles, writes, and edits grant applications.May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:Bachelor’s Degree required. Four years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:Master’s Degree relating to work in museums, galleries, or libraries. A genuine passion to build relationships across Yale’s libraries and museums. Experience in matrixed project management. Familiarity with higher education and cultural heritage institutions.
