The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Associate Transportation Engineer in the Transportation Division of the Public Works Department!

When assigned to development review , you will have the opportunity to:

Review residential, commercial, industrial and public works project plans, traffic impact reports, and other development and design related documents for compliance with City of Berkeley standards and regulations including all applicable local, state, and federal codes and guidelines.

Evaluate and recommend mitigation measures to address adverse impacts of development projects, review plan checks for small developments, and review traffic control plans for construction projects.

When assigned to

capital project design and traffic signal systems , you will:

Manage capital improvement projects including development of conceptual design options, detailed engineering design, bid and construction administration.

Prepare council reports, conduct presentations, and respond to project-related inquiries from the public.

Be involved in Complete Streets Projects and traffic calming projects, analyzing street and road use with a focus on safety and efficiency of transportation networks.

An ideal candidate in this role is proficient in scope, schedule, and cost management with managing multiple projects and competing priorities simultaneously as well as working knowledge of complete streets design principles, traffic calming and traffic control elements, civil engineering, roadway design, and Citywide plans including Bike Plan and Pedestrian Plan.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with major course work in civil or traffic engineering and three years of increasingly responsible traffic engineering experience, one year of which was at a level equivalent to theAssistant Transportation Engineerclass.

Progressively responsible related experience may be substituted for the college course work on a year for year basis. A master’s degree in Transportation Engineering/Planning or a related field is desirable.

Requirements include:

Valid California Registration as a professional Traffic Engineer or a professional Civil Engineer.

Valid California driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.

SALARY

$126,947.60 – $153,394.80 Annually
