Job Title: Associate Transportation Engineer

The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Associate Transportation Engineer in the Transportation Division of the Public Works Department! Responsibilities: Review residential, commercial, industrial, and public works project plans, traffic impact reports, and other development and design related documents for compliance with City of Berkeley standards and regulations. Evaluate and recommend mitigation measures to address adverse impacts of development projects. Manage capital improvement projects including development of conceptual design options, detailed engineering design, bid, and construction administration. Prepare council reports, conduct presentations, and respond to project-related public inquiries. Design/review traffic engineering design elements for Complete Streets Projects and traffic calming projects. Work with project development team to analyze street and road use for all road users focusing on safety and efficiency of transportation networks. Maintain and upgrade the city’s traffic signal system, including using Synchro traffic signal timing software. An ideal candidate in this role is proficient in scope, schedule, and cost management with managing multiple projects and competing priorities simultaneously, as well as having a working knowledge of complete streets design principles, traffic calming and traffic control elements, civil engineering, roadway design, and Citywide plans including the Bike Plan and Pedestrian Plan. Minimum Qualifications: A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with major course work in civil or traffic engineering and three years of increasingly responsible traffic engineering experience, one year of which were at a level equivalent to the Assistant Transportation Engineer class. Progressively responsible related experience may be substituted for the college course work on a year-for-year basis. Other requirements include possession of a valid California Registration as a professional Traffic Engineer or a professional Civil Engineer, a valid California driver's license, and a satisfactory driving record. Desirable qualifications include a master's degree in Transportation Engineering/Planning or a related field. Applications are being accepted continuously until positions are filled.
