From large multistate investigations into international corporations, to fly-by-night fraudsters targeting vulnerable populations, the Consumer Fraud Unit works hard to protect Coloradans against all manner of deceptive, fraudulent, and other unfair business practices. We investigate, we negotiate, we litigate, and we secure relief on behalf of consumers. This is a great position for an attorney interested in diverse and challenging work, and who wants to serve the public.WHAT YOU WILL DOThe Assistant Attorney General in the Consumer Fraud Unit is expected to handle a caseload and to conduct investigations and enforcement actions both independently and in partnership with other AAGs. As the attorney assigned to a case, you will be responsible for creating and executing investigation plans, analyzing potential violations of consumer protection laws, negotiating settlements, and litigating cases in both state and federal court. You will also oversee the work of paralegals, investigators, and other administrative personnel partnering on the case, and will frequently collaborate with other local, state, and federal agencies, as well as with other AAGs around the country. Our cases very greatly in size and complexity, and often involve extensive pre-filing investigations. The attorney in this position will be expected to successfully manage that full range of complexity. This attorney will also regularly interact with colleagues, members of the public, law enforcement, and fellow governmental agencies regarding the work of the Unit and create and deliver training to these entities when needed.This recruitment may be used to fill more than one Assistant Attorney General position in the Consumer Protection section.

Salary note:The Department ofLaw uses a wage progression compensation model. Although a salary range is listed, salary will be set commensurate with the successful candidate’s qualifications and in compliance with the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act.Attorneys with more than 3 years of experience practicing as an attorney will be hired as an Assistant Attorney General II (AAG II). The AAG II salary range is $99,318 – $132,901/ annually.WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FORThe Consumer Fraud Unit is seeking an attorney with an strong interest or background in consumer protection. This is a generalist position—the ideal candidate will have a passion for learning new subject areas and bringing cases against a variety of businesses and individuals. Although the Consumer Fraud Unit seeks self-driven and motivated applicants, the individuals who will succeed in the position are team players and enjoy collaborating with their colleagues to achieve the best results for Colorado consumers.Candidates eligible to waive into the Colorado Bar will be required to submit proof of their completed application and application for Practice Pending Admission before the first day of employment.
