The College is an Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action employer, and especially welcomes applications from veterans, women, individuals with disabilities, and members of racial, ethnic, and other historically underrepresented groups.Vassar College is a smoke-free, tobacco-free campus.Vassar College offers a comprehensive benefits package for administrators which includes:22 vacation days for full time employees – prorated if not full time, unlimited paid personal and sick time for use at the supervisor’s approval.14 paid holidays per year which includes the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day.A choice of three health plans (EPO, PPO, High Deductible), Participation in FSA, Dependent Care, and Transit programs.Voluntary, employee paid dental insurance plan.Life Insurance and Voluntary Supplemental Life InsuranceEmployer paid short-term and long-term disability programs.New hires will be automatically enrolled in the SRA at a 4% employee contribution per paycheck.Reporting to the Associate Dean of the College for Career Education and working closely with the Dean of Studies/Chair of the Fellowships Committee, the Director of Fellowships is a key member of the leadership team in Center for Career Education and is responsible for overseeing and expanding the college’s fellowship programs, including both nationally competitive fellowships as well as internal Vassar fellowships for graduate study, summer language study, and internships.This role involves advising students and alums on fellowship opportunities, developing partnerships, and coordinating application processes to ensure that students and alums are well-prepared to apply for prestigious fellowships. The Director will coordinate with the Faculty Chair of the Fellowships Committee, the Dean of Studies, as well as an elected Faculty Committee on Fellowships and various ad-hoc committees to organize and oversee application, selection, and nomination processes. Within the Center for Career Education, the Director will work closely with the Associate Director of Fellowships and an Office Specialist to manage day-to-day operations related to fellowships. The Director will also engage with faculty and external partners to enhance the college’s fellowship initiatives.ResponsibilitiesProvide individualized guidance to students and alums seeking fellowships and related graduate school plans, including helping them identify appropriate opportunities, develop competitive applications, and prepare for interviews.Oversee the administration of fellowship programs, including application processes, selection committee training and management, candidate selection procedures, and award management.Take a lead role in implementing the office’s new application management solution, SurveyMonkey Apply.Ensure that all fellowship-related activities align with the college’s mission and strategic goals.Oversee the administration of $2M+ in Vassar’s endowed and expendable fellowships. Work with the Office Specialist, Associate Director, and Accounting to ensure streamlined processes for fund disbursement.Develop and implement strategies to raise awareness of fellowship opportunities among students, including creating and organizing workshops, information sessions, and promotional materials.Monitor and evaluate the success of fellowship programs and report on outcomes to college leadership.Maintain detailed records of fellowship activities, applications, and awards.Stay informed about national and international fellowship opportunities, trends in higher education, and best practices in fellowship advising. Maintain active membership in the National Association of Fellowship Advisors (NAFA). Attend relevant conferences and training sessions as needed.QualificationsRequiredBachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years of experience in higher education, student affairs, or a related field.Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to mentor and motivate students.Excellent organizational and project management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.Familiarity with a range of fellowship and scholarship opportunities and a keen understanding of the competitive application process.Knowledge of liberal arts education and the needs of a diverse student body.Demonstrated commitment to student success and development.Ability to work collaboratively in a small, close-knit academic community.PreferredMaster’s degree or PhD.Experience with fellowship advising or program management.CompensationThe starting annual base salary range for this position is $68,900 – $88,000. When extending an offer, Vassar College considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, budget, and other market and organizational considerations.
