The best women's hospital in Los Angeles is looking for current RN candidates to staff Operating Room, Emergency Department, Labor & Delivery and Mother-Baby care units to be housed in our expanding new patient tower facility scheduled to open next year. Position Summary:

Reporting to the Nurse Manager or Supervisor, this position is responsible for planning, directing, coordinating and providing high quality, individualized patient care using the components of the nursing process.

Maintains current competencies and skill levels required for work/specialty area.

Participates in quality and performance improvement programs.

Orients and trains assigned personnel and students.

Provides direction to other members of the patient care team to coordinate all aspects of a nursing unit/department for assigned shift. Assesses effectiveness of direction given and problem solves issues regarding patient care.

Knowledgeably administers IV's and medications per protocol/policy, observing and documenting patient's response. Verifies patients identify/ID band before treatments and procedures.

Writes initial nursing history, assesses patient's conditions and develops and updates individual plans of care for patients assigned to the unit/department.

Demonstrates knowledge of moderate sedation agents, technique, and actions.

Monitors physiologic, cognitive status of patients and timely reports changes to physicians during procedures and/or other appropriate personnel.

Properly demonstrates ability to recognize cardiac rhythms and to treat arrhythmias appropriately.

Assists with admitting patients to endoscopy unit.

Assembles necessary instruments, supplies and equipment prior to start each case.

Assists in discharging patients form unit, when assigned.

Assists in checking for availability and proper condition of necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment prior to start of every endoscopy procedures.

Prepares for endoscopy and chart completed in timely manner.
  • Participates in maintaining proper inventory levels of supplies.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of age specific care, including but not limited to, identifying the need for additional safety measures, physiological normal values/readings; and assessing skin integrity, behavior, motor skills and/or activities that place patients at risk as well as communicates effectively in a clear, concise, understandable manner.   • Demonstrates effective team leader/charge nurse skills.
  • Provides a safe, therapeutic environment for patient and families. Uses patient restraints appropriately, documenting observations/interventions completely.
  • Documents in a clear, complete, legible, organized and timely manner, demonstrating skill in the nursing process and critical thinking. Monitors and ensures accuracy of recording on patient medical records. Maintains all required reports, records, statistics, etc.
  • Identifies and communicates problems regarding ethical issues that may surface between professionals and patients. Demonstrates respect for patient rights.
  • Answers telephone in a prompt and courteous manner, addressing callers and patients appropriately by name and/or title.
  • Performs efficiently in crisis and emergency situations, following established protocols, remaining calls, informing appropriate persons and documenting events.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in the work setting with changing patient assignments, varying staffing levels and patient care environment and completes work on time.
  • Demonstrates a clear understanding of all Washer sterilizer control measures.
  • Performs leak test on all endoscopes prior to sterilization.
  • Correctly load and unloads equipment in washer sterilizer.
  • Performs all required duties for decontamination of equipment. Maintaining log for sterilization cycles for all endoscopy equipment.
  • Determines appropriate mode of sterilization/disinfection for all reusable endoscopy items.
  • Performs and accurately documents biological testing of all sterilizer.
  • Meticulously inspects all equipment and instruments for proper function and cleanliness before storage.
  • Labels and reports malfunctioning equipment to the appropriate person per established policy and procedures.
  • Washes work area daily with disinfectant.
  • Supports and adheres to established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, safety and infection control standards, including compliance with punctuality , overtime, floating , staffing/scheduling, body mechanics, TB screening, JACHO update, attendance, English language, ID badge, and dress code standards.
  • Demonstrates dependability/flexibility in meeting scheduling needs of units and hospital.
  • Verbalizes and demonstrates the ability to obtain and interpret cardiac rhythms and the treatment of arrhythmias.

Qualifications:

Minimum Education:
  • Graduate of an accredited RN Training Program

Minimum Work Experience and Qualifications:
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Must be able to work in a union environment.

Preferred Work Experience and Qualifications:
  • Minimum one (1) year recent experience in an Endoscopy setting preferred
  • One (1) year recent experience in an operating room setting preferred

Required Licensure, Certification, Registration or Designation:
  • Current California Registered Nurse licensure.
  • Current BCLS Certification.
  • Current ACLS Certification.
  • Fire card within 30 days of employment.
  • Pass an EKG test
