The Opportunity

The Senior Tax Specialist role will work with the Head of Tax to manage the firm's tax function and objectives. The Senior Tax Specialist will assist in managing corporate tax policies, tax planning, and compliance for the firm. The ideal candidate will work with the Head of Tax to identify potential opportunities and areas of risk by monitoring changes in tax regulations, implementing appropriate processes and procedures, and analyzing the business' operations. We are looking for a team player that will help manage key relationships with both our internal stakeholders and external advisors.

The Senior Tax Specialist will play an integral role in contributing to and delivering on the firms' strategic direction in a manner that strikes the right combination of financial efficiency and risk management.

Role Responsibilities

  • Manage the domestic and international tax compliance and filing obligations including:
    • Canadian Corporate and Partnership taxes
    • Indirect taxes including sales and payroll
    • US Federal and State taxes
    • Singapore Corporate taxes
  • Prepare the monthly and annual tax provision and installments
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders including the firm's ownership group and executive team and manage the relationship with external tax advisors
  • Participate in the design and maintenance of the firm's global transfer pricing regime
  • Conduct tax research and stay informed on changes in tax laws, regulations, and rulings that may impact the firm's tax positions and compliance requirements
  • Develop and implement processes and projects to support the tax function
  • Prepare documentation, memos, and support materials to substantiate the firm's tax positions and amounts filed, ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations
  • Research, plan, and implement strategies to optimize the global tax structure of the organization
  • Analysis and provide recommendations of global work assessments
  • Assist with the preparation of Private Equity tax compliance and research and analysis of PE structuring
  • Provide analysis and support to other areas of the firm including the Canadian Mutual Funds


Desired Qualifications

  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA; CPA, CA) and/or Law degree
  • Completion of CPA In-Depth Tax Program and/or Canadian/US Master of Taxation Program
  • Thorough understanding of Canadian Corporate and Partnership Tax, US taxes and the US-Canada Tax Treaty
  • Understanding of Canadian Mutual Funds and Private Equity (desirable)
  • Continual growth mindset with a focus on long-term tax planning
  • Proficiency in Office 365 and tax software such as Taxprep
  • Analytical mindset with a strategic ability
  • Ability to focus independently and contribute effectively as part of a team
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
