Thompson Oncology Group (TOG) is seeking a Medical Director to lead its growing team of medical oncologists/hematologists and advanced practice providers. Thompson Oncology Group is a member of Covenant Health, the largest healthcare provider in East Tennessee. The Covenant Health-Thompson Cancer network is the largest provider of cancer care in our region with nine cancer centers. Our program is growing rapidly, and we are looking for a passionate, dynamic physician leader to help drive and direct our program’s continued growth towards being a national model of excellence in cancer care in the community setting. This position is a critical and high visibility member of the cancer program leadership team and will be expected to directly contribute to strategic direction of the cancer program.

About this OpportunityThe Medical Director will be responsible for providing clinical oversight of the group and medical oncology program. In collaboration with the cancer program senior leadership team, the Medical Director will lead efforts to increase integration and alignment of medical oncology services across all Covenant Health facilities. More specific responsibilities include:

Lead recruitment, retention, mentorship, quality, and growth management for TOG physicians and APP.

Represent medical oncology services across the system, both inpatient and outpatient, to other physician groups and to executive leadership of facilities and service lines.

Be a major contributor to strategic initiatives for medical oncology, TOG, and the full Covenant Health cancer program.

Act as the public face for Thompson Oncology Group for general marketing, public events, and physician-group relations.

Head efforts to integrate, align, and standardize operations.

Lead quality and safety program for medical oncology.

Ensure physician presence in all medical oncology leadership meetings and clinical decision making.

Participate in the development of policies, procedures, continuing education programs, and training of providers and staff.

Participate in budget planning and prioritization.

In addition to administrative duties, the Medical Director is expected to practice at least 3 days per week in clinic initially.

Qualifications

Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO).

Candidates must be board-certified in medical oncology.

Minimum of 7 years clinical experience.

Previous leadership experience.

Tennessee Medical License-eligible.

Thompson Oncology Group is a member of Covenant Health and serves as the medical oncology group for the Thompson Cancer Survival Center medical oncology program. The group currently is made up of 35 Providers covering eight locations with over 50,000 patient visits annually. Covenant Health includes nine acute care hospitals, and more than 4,500 cancer cases are diagnosed annually within the health system.

Thompson Cancer Survival Center has a legacy of providing high quality cancer care in East Tennessee and its six comprehensive cancer center locations serve as the regional hub for cancer care. Thompson offers some of the area’s most advanced cancer diagnostic services and treatments, including advanced PET imaging exams, breast tomosynthesis, Gamma Knife Icon, nine state-of-the-art linear accelerators, proton therapy, and a robust clinical research program.
