We are currently looking for a Senior Accountant to join the Glendale-based team. The Senior Accountant will p repare journal entries and oversee reconciliations/analyses for monthly general ledger close. Assist in the preparation and distribution of financial statements. Ensure that all deliverables comply with regulatory guidance and professional standards. Provide assistance to Controller with external audit and compliance examination. Assist with Banking activities like setting up new accounts and adding new signatures. Assist with special projects assigned by the Controller.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

:

Accounting:

Perform accounting functions as assigned including, but not limited to maintaining/ensuring the accuracy of all balance sheet GL accounts with monthly account analyses. Review Income Statement GL accounts for accuracy and adjust as necessary on a monthly basis. Back-up daily and month-end duties assigned to other accounting staff.

Reporting & Analysis:

Assist in the preparation of monthly financials and accompanying schedules, worksheets, and narratives, including variance reports. Assist in providing follow-up and documentation of variances.

Assist with the completion of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports; preparation of assigned Quarterly and Annual Tax or regulatory filings.

Audits & Examinations:

Assist with annual external audit. Complete the requested materials. Assist in preparing assigned schedules for the annual and other compliance or tax audits.

Systems:

Assist with testing system reports required for management, financial reporting, and general ledger analyses on a monthly basis. Assist in the creation of a summary report, sourcing all management reports.

Banking/Cash:

Assist with creating new accounts and adjusting signers as necessary. Assist in investment portfolio reporting to management.

Other:

Conform with and abide by all regulatory guidance and internal policies & procedures.

Document policies, procedures, and workflow for assigned areas of responsibility.

Contribute to department and special projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

:

Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

Strong analytical and accounting skills

Intermediate to advanced experience with MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, and Crystal reports or similar programs

Intermediate to advanced knowledge of major accounting software packages for general ledger and payroll processing. Sage and iSolved experience preferred

Must be able to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment

Excellent verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills

Ability to work independently and as part of a team and take on new tasks with a high level of difficulty

The individual will be expected to work with minimal guidance and take ownership of his / her work product

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor of Science in Accounting or equivalent from an accredited university preferred

Minimum six years of progressively responsible experience in accounting at the senior level, preferably in the property and casualty insurance industry
